A week ago I was riding my motorcycle up Latigo Cyn. and passed a cyclist that looked like Lance. He had the Lance haircut, black socks, yellow jersey and was wearing no helmet. Actually the helmet was on his handlebars.

I figured, nah, it can't be.

Then I read this morning that Lance and Matthew McConaughey had rented a house over the holidays on Latigo and that they both would ride Latigo frequently.

Lance would descend Latigo, then climb Latigo to the top, then descend it again and re-climb it again in the time it took McConaughey to go down and back up once.

I wonder how many of us Lance has passed where he's thought "Is that a Bike Forumer?"

Latigo Canyon is off of PCH north of Malibu. Lovely climb, but since people have houses on Latigo Canyon Road there's a lot more traffic than on GMR, for example.

:roflmao: Sure, why not. And my theory is he is a lurker on here but too shy to join on one of our rides. :p

Latigo is usually quite deserted except for the sportbike (moto) guys. I rode it Xmas day and saw exactly
1 car and 2 cyclists, all going the opposite way.

I did notice a number of angels hovering over one of the houses along the way. Must have been the one Lance rented.

Forget it. I'd be dropped for sure with you, George Vargas and Lance along. Although, the view from the back would be unbelievably sweet. :D

I've passed him a few times I think. (one of the things about living in Austin). One of my teammates rode with him solo for 10 miles or so last year. Just ran into him on the road and said he'd always wanted to meet him. Everyone I've said who has met him says he's very approachable and pretty friendly. Which is nice because a lot of what we hear about him portrays him as such a major jerk.

Also I'm fairly certain I rode past team Disco going the other way a couple weeks ago. Wimps were going with the wind. ;D

Where is Latigo Cyn?

runs between the PCH and Kannan Dume Rd. One of the greatest roads in the Santa Monicas. Wish they'd repave it though. The rains were harsh last winter, and washed out a few sections.

Up or down, its a great road. Very twisty. There's a 180 hairpin that drops two stories. We enter that at almost 40mph on skates, and slide the turn to slow. Its pretty intense. Two days ago, two of us trained up (like a roller coaster) and shaved 25 seconds off a single skater time trial time.

Lance, if you're out on Sundays after 2pm, we're out there.

I think "ride with ocean on right, go 62.5 miles out, turn around, ride with ocean on left, end at same spot you started" should suffice. (oh, and bring ID for base entry and beer purchases).

There, I did it for you. :p

It's where you ride a bike for 100 miles, and then look in the rulebook to see if the ride meets the criteria to be a century. The rulebook is floating around here somewhere.

Lance should have been wearing a helmet and sunglasses. Celebrities like their privacy? They say a cyclist can't be recognized as long as they wear helmets and shades. We all look alike, as long as we are in good shape.

Lance can only join our forum if he promises not to sandbag, as per our New Year's resolution.

Lance: "Yeah, I won the Tour but I'm really so slow going up Rock Store"
Socal BFer: "uh huh."
