View Full Version : What winter?
I live in Massachusetts and it's unbelievable. It's January and it's in the 50's. We haven't had any snow yet and it's been really mild all season. No ice on the ponds and the ground isn't frozen either. I 'm 44 years old and can't remember a winter as mild as this one.

down here we've broken a record for the longest time with no snowfall (so far none and none in sight) i think there has only been two days where the temps dipped below freezing. mainly 40's and 50's (and some 60's) all the way through december. January's forecast is about the same as well. no dips in temperatures...at least for the next 10 days.
really really bizarre for the northeast. we're 15-20 degrees above normal over a really long period of time.
yes, i live on the coast of massachusetts and it's been late October-like
where exactly in the commonwealth are you?

I live in Western Mass in Springfield. I'm still wearing shorts when I go to ride. It's supposed to be near 60 degrees thru the weekend.
Same thing in Latvia. I've worn a hat only once while commuting every day this winter. It does make the commute a lot quicker, though!

 That's amazing! I used to live in Greenfield, and I remember quite harsh winters.

At least we didn't get pummelled on the Front Range as badly as the people in the southeastern corner of Colorado:eek: I grew up out there and you don't want to be around when there is 4" of snow, much less 4 feet:eek: Not when you are the tallest thing in a 20 mile radius.

I look at it this way, I'm still able to ride my good weather bike instead of the winter beater with knobbies. Although at this rate I may not get to see how fast I can wear down the studs on these Innova studded tires..

I feel fortunate I found a Massachusetts forum. But my son lives in Colorado, (Loveland). Any snow points from that?
So "AJC". Wheah bouts, in Ma. for you?
The weather is nice, but getting scary. I was out last night doing a "full moon" ride, around town. 8pm and still around 40.

Yup. The record goes all the way back to 1877 for NYC.

Same here out on Long Island. Looks like autumn is going right into spring. Hell, I haven't even had to commute to work in the rain for months. I'm beginning to wonder whey I built up that fixed gear fendered beater.

STOP RUBBING IT IN!!! :) Just kidding, as much as I want some snow to ride through, I guess fall/spring conditions are better than constant blizzard conditions. If you bag that mammoth, mail me some steaks will yah?

Mmmmm....Mammoth burgers. I made the mistake of wearing long underwear under my windpants when I went out for a ride last night. When I got back you could have rung them out..ewwwwwww.

Please please please! I've commuted once in the last 3 weeks. ONCE! Our winter was so mild last year that I think I missed maybe one week the whole winter. Old man winter has it out for us. I wouldn't be amazed if we already have more snow so far than the entire winter last year. *grumbles*
Next week I am going to break out my junker of a huffy MTB and ride 4 miles to the park-n-ride instead of catching the bus outside my house. Better than nothing.

heyy, I live down on Cape Cod in Mass, great weather here too which is somthing that doesn't happen. When he had a blizzard a few years back my town was shutdown for like two weeks.
We've had a couple decent storms here, we got a few inches yesterday. I hate it when it's cold but doesn't snow cause the air quality gets bad around here, plus I like riding in the snow. I think and inch or or so once a week would be perfect with a big dump once a month. Oh yeah and give me fifty degrees whenever it isn't snowing while your at it.
What Winter?
At last count winter was like 2 weeks old.

Please come pick it up.
We had an ice storm last month so I got a chance to ride my studded-tire bike and wave to the cars that I passed while they were slipping and sliding. Too bad it didn't even last half a day and it was all melted by the afternoon. It's been warm ever since.
Partly Cloudy and Windy
68°F but we hit an official high of 72°F
Wind: From W at 20 mph gusting to 31 mph
Humidity: 47%
I wore shorts, smartwool socks, longsleeved jersey over a cotton t. I was overdressed.
