Anyone heard of Eclipse road bikes? What do you know and think about them?

The only bike I am familiar with under that name was a relabeled French-built TVT carbon bike sold in the late 1980's by the touring bag company Eclipse.
There is also the Jamis Eclipse road bike. They are known as good road bikes, but this year they came out with carbon fiber seatstays and chainstays for their steel framed bike. I haven't heard any reviews on the bike.

No, this is an actual brand name called Eclipse. They sell them in Ottawa at Pecco's. They look pretty decent and have nice components but I know nothing about them and was hoping someone else did.

I wish I knew something about the Eclipse Carbon 7 bike I just bought.
And no, it's not a Jamis.

There is a shop here in Ottawa,Ontario called Pecco's and their house brand is Eclipse.I think at one time their alu. frames were made by Devinci in Quebec and their ti frames were made in Russia?I have not seen a carbon one yet.Where did you buy the bike?

I bought it from my uncle, who bought it from an outdoor outfitter here in Cincinnati. He purchased the bike around 1990-1992, I think. I've only found one mention of this particular bike on the Internet; obviously it wasn't a popular brand.
Check out this lousy picture I took and tell me if it's the same one you're thinking of.

The Eclipse script looks familiar but I've never seen one like that.I'll ask around and try to get back to you in a reasonable time.I've only been in the bike scene for 5yrs so I have not seen everything.

Well Pecco's builds their bikes from scratch. They get their frames for road bike from Davinci, and their other frames come the same factories as specialized and norco....

I've worked at peccos for a year or so and to be honest, Eclipse road bikes are the bomb. They are light, great quality, specifically made for comfort and performance, you can have one for 1200$ + Tax with Shimano 105 or even Campinelo since everyone is a big fan of Italian stuff. Carbon forks back and front. Frames were once the same as DeVinci's (Made in Canada) but now are imported from Thailand. You can get the new obscure for just above 7000 With shimano dura-ace or less with shimano ultegra.
Great road bikes - Good mountain bikes.
I have an Eclipse Flux 105, which I ride five hours a week on the road and on the trainer. It's got an aluminum frame with 105 derailleurs and Tiagra shifters (the invoice lists this as a "105 kit"). I picked an Eclipse because it's custom built (they measure your height, inseam, shoulders and arms and use component sizes to best match you) *and* it's cheaper than the competition - 999$ for the 105 like mine.
I bought mine in April 2009, we're now in November 2009 and I had to return to the shop FIVE times because it keeps breaking. Three times they had to rebuild my wheels (crappy nipples and spokes) and twice they had to replace or fix my left shifter (I suspect they fixed it the first time and replaced it the second). On every account they fixed everything free of charges, both labour and parts, but it really doesn't matter, I don't trust my bike to go on long rides anymore. When it works it rides like a charm, but I am very disappointed in my purchase and will not go back to them for my next upgrade (thinking Trek or Cervelo, but hopefully this can wait a couple years).
Service is somewhat annoying. Every time is the same: the bike goes in the basement to their mechanic while you wait upstairs. You then pick it up within a day or two without knowing what was done or if there's anything you can do to prevent it from breaking again.
Prices are excellent, bikes look promising and they're really fast in repairing. With the one year warranty (4-5 years for the frame, 2 years for Shimano parts, 1 year for the rest) coming to an end in a few months, I really hope this was my last repair in many years. The bottom line for me however is I don't trust what I'm riding on, which is a real bummer.

Eclipse bikes were sold by Bike UK in London in the 1980s
I still have a black tourer from the Kings X branch
Made from 531
Poorly assembled - I snapped two frames
Since then I snapped a Raleigh Dynatech in 1990 and this year snapped a Condor Tempo
And I am so gentle

Eclipse bikes
I have a French-made 1987 Eclipse Carbon-7 (seven-layer bonded Carbon/Kevlar composite tubing originally designed for guided missile fuselages and bazooka barrels) (frame weight 3.05 lbs.). The frame was bonded with heat-set epoxy and cast-aluminum lugs. I purchased it new in 1987 ($1200...$900 for frame only) and still ride it every week. Besides local rides of 25-60 miles, I've ridden it in centuries and once rode it across the United States from Newport Beach, CA to Jacksonville Beach, FL in 30 days. I changed to some higher gearing when I was young and strong, but recently reduced the smaller front ring slightly. Same Dura-Ace components...same Look pedals...same aluminum fork. The following year Look bought the brand and equipped it with a carbon fork. There is some discoloration around the lugs, but heck, I have discoloration on my frame, too. A great bike and a great friend...

I have had two Eclipse bikes, an all-Campagnolo titanium frame bike, purchased in 2000, and my hack, a hybrid I bought in 2004 for commuting, which has 24000 km, no failures.
You will save 20-30% easily by shopping at Pecco's. They have a sophisticated bike fitting machine, and, after they determine details like frame size, stem and bar size, etc. they will assemble your bike, so no parts need changing. They import their own components (Eclipse or Focus brands) sourced from the same makers as major component manufacturers such as Easton and Ritchie get theirs. You can get these and other brands as well, should you choose. At the end of the day, you have a bike which represents excellent value and fits perfectly, saving you the hassle of changing parts to get a better fit, as you would with a box bike.
Pecco's has a great reputation and they are plainly in the bicycle business to stay.
They have no serious competition in the Ottawa area.
Highly recommended.

I have a couple of eclipse bikes from Peccos. A Ti mtb, a hybrid and an ultegra touring bike. My wife also owns an aluminum road bike. The aluminum frames are now made in Taiwan - they used to be made by Davinci in Quebec but Davinci started getting most of their frames made in Taiwan in the early 2000s so Peccos went the same route...
I think the ti frames are still made in Russia. My mtb is the only mountan bike frame I have ever had for more than 2 years that has not broken. I like my bikes and will probably strongly consider another Eclipse whenever I shop for my next bike.
