Hi,

My Brompton has a telescopic seatpost, but I have realised I don't really need that extra weight and complexity. So I am thinking on changing for an standard seatpost. Can I use a non-Brompton one? Or can I get rid of the telescopic extension and convert it into an standard seatpost? Any third-party options worth considering?

IMHO there a many reasons to just bite the bullet and replace the telescoping post with a Brompton fixed post.

The Brompton post is high quality, you know it will work, and if you ever sell the bike it'll be worth more because you have an OEM seatpost instead of some kludge.

According to Channell Wasson's website, the standard seat pilar is $23, the extended seat pilar is $24.50 (heavier guage alloy and 2 1/2” longer), and the telescopic seat pilar is $74.25.

$23 isn't terribly expensive.

Thanks. Yes, it is not expensive at all. Right now is more a question of availability (I don't have Brompton suppliers nearby and I am flying with the bicycle in a few days), and of whether going down the Carbon Fibre route could be an option.

I think the Ti option would be better than the carbon fibre route - also cheaper.

I am just the opposite from you. I have a regular standard seatpost. I was thinking of upgrading to a telescopic seatpost sometimes in the future with my present Brompton or a newer model. I would recommend to save the telescopic seatpost for a future sale and/or upgrade back to the original seatpost. As for purchasing a Brompton seatpost now and you are obviously in a hurry, why don't you just order one either on-line or over the phone from the dealer you bought the bike from or one of the dealers listed on the official Brompton website for your country. They usually offer the option of fast shipping the part to you via overnight delivery, 2 day delivery, or some other express shipping methods if the part is available usually for an additional fee.
