I think you should drop from the century a month challenge and join the century a week challenge :)

 I'm only riding this much mileage in preparation for Butterfield on Feb. 17. I'm a little nervous as it will be my most challenging ride to date. I want the miles (and climbing too, of course) and figure this is a good way to get them in! Once I get Butterfield in, I'll calm my riding down a bit. I don't want to overtrain which is what I did last year!
Is this a good first century ride?

You know you might want to PM Julian (I doubt that member is on here as often as the rest of us addicts are) and ask. I don't know the route and haven't checked out their website out yet to weigh in, Scott. :o

Thanks. Hey, I sent you a pm, but it was rejected... ???? Shall I try again?
Web site is www.julianactive.com
We figure about 3000 feet of climb for the entire ride.
Start and finish at Palm Canyon Resort.
Go to the direction page and click on hybrid view and zoom in and out. It will give you a good birds eye view of the area.
Pre registered price of $49 include shirt, ride, rest stops and after the ride Julian pie and ice cream along with refreshments.
our e-mail is julianactive@sbcglobal.net if you have any other questions.
I'm not sure but I think the rt is part of the Borego to the Sea rt. plus some. I've heard a portion repeats a pice of the eralier miles.
If it is thte same course, I think it's a nice ride. I did B to the Sea and really like it. Only a small part of the road is rough. I thought it went by quickly and didn't really bother me. The is some gentle climbing. You did GMR so this would be a breeze for you. SOme of the climbing you dont even really notice. You'll look at your speedo and wonder why you are going slow. Then realize you're climbing. Almost like a false flat in some areas. I really enjoy the area!
Gina did the Tour of Borreego alone a few years back. 38 miles. I let her ride alone while I drove my truck as a support vehicle for her. It was cool. The riders and people out there have a great cycling attitude. I had fun on B to S and the Tof B a couple of other times I did it. Was great weather all 3 or 4 times we were out there. The last tiem I did it was the year beofre some of the forum members did it in the rain, a couple ago!
Gina really liked the Tof B and flew thru it easily(38 miles). I'd really like to take her out ther for her first century on singles. We'll see though. I do prefer the ride to TourDe PlamSprings. Post lunch was good comper to PS which gave you NOTHING! Lunch was great. Food ,desert, drinks. Plus the crowd was way small compared to PS. Just enough riders to have fun, but not enough to consider over crowded.
I say go for it! I want to return for the ride but have lots of stuff going on. My daughter moving to AZ, selling our home, and the death of an old family friend. I just might have to do it to make myself feel better.

You sent ME a pm and it was rejected? Really? Yes, please try again.

This must be the same reason you haven't been getting Ovaleg's PM's.

Thanks for the info..I'm getting mixed reviews. I think good riding partners can make a less-than ideal ride a good one though...

The few times I did it, I rode a lone. The riders were friendly though, so I had a good time. Of course Gina followed me in the truck. Prolly why I was so stoked! The riders were friendly to her as well. At the psot lunch, they were laughing and telling me how they though some woman in a truck was stocking them!:D
I prolly enjoyed it cause I like the rides that aren't so crowded. Some like big rides, I prefer the medium populated.
Hahahahaha. I mapped it wrong last time. I just realized it was three hours away.

So does this change your ride status. I would like to join in on this one.

I already paid. I think the ride will be fun, but the 3-hour drive is making me think about getting a room the night before now.

Don't think. Just do it.:)
According to Google, it's only 2ish hours away. Maybe Google drives faster.
I got my packet and ride number today. It's almost like cardboard. With holes. Do they expect us to pin these on?
We will have ties at the registration area. You can tie them onto your bike or around your top tube or just carry it with you.

When we did it last year we spent the night in Temecula....and it was at least 90 minutes to get there...maybe a bit more...2 lane road....and it will be dark...

No...we did it last year...well it was a metric...Not sure why it didnt make it onto our ride schedule....I prob wouldnt do the century anyway....maybe too late for us to plan this...
Long term forecast from Accuweather.com is predicting a high of around 68 for the day of the ride.
Pre registered riders can use their unused ride number towards credit for any other ride put on by R&B Bicycle Club for one year if they cannot make it for any reason.

You guys are getting no love. I tried.
That is OK.
Too much love is not a good thing!
i rated this ride: (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=3693513#post3693513)
Name of Ride: borrego to the sea (http://www.julianactive.com/borrego%20springs%20century.htm) (formerly known at the artist called borrego to the sea)
Location: borrego springs
When: January
Type: century or less if you choose, various routes
Route: paid organized
Organizer: R&B
Rating: 5
Number of People: 400? (not sure)
Comments on SAG support and Rest Stops: excellent rest stops and nice people. i do R&B rides for their sag stops and post meal treats! this ride always has bread from the dudley bakery (along with PB to spread on, if you choose, bananas, and other goodies) their post mean treat is a slice of julian pie topped with ice cream!
Comments on the route: the original borrego to the sea is an out and back. nice course, not to much elevation. a good beginners ride. the roads for a VERY VERY short stretch in imperial county are pure crud... but not long enough to deter me from the ride. (i've ridden it on both aluminum and carbon fiber). i can't speak on the extension loop that makes it a century, as it's new this year. if it detracts from the overall ride i'll come back and update this. otherwise i wholeheartedly recommend this ride! rich (organizer) and the gang are terrific folks who put on a terrific ride!
i also want to add... last year... i started the day with just a lightweight long sleeve jersey, shorts, tights, regular gloves (NOT full finger!), and leg warmers.... part way through the ride i had taken off the leg warmers, toe covers and pushed up the sleeves of my jersey! it was absolutely GORGEOUS!
keep in mine i'm colder than most of you.... so for me to weat that little amount of clothing in january.... that was some some GORGEOUS weather! and this year's exentended forcast (http://www.weather.com/outlook/events/sports/tenday/USCA0119?from=36hr_fcst10DayLink_sports) is looking pretty nice!
(and you aren't stuck with your ride entry if the weather takes a turn... how many rides offer THAT kind of guarantee?????????? they have plenty of other nice and fun rides to use your ride credit on!)
Feeling a little lonely, Voltaire? :( Sorry I decided to blow this ride off for another. But I'm tired of driving!

The packet says we need to be there by 7 to register. If we're late, do we miss out on anything? I'm just planning on driving down the morning of.
you sign the san diego waiver and pick up your t-shirt... registration is quick and they ALWAYS have nice, friendly people!
hmmmmmm........ the site says registration opens at 7.... so he's opening earlier! i believe they still register you up til the 9:00 cut off cuz folks doing the shorter rides don't want or need to start so early!
julian (sounds funny calling you that! lol!)
does the new part of the century course go on that road like the tour of borrego... the "down then up" then turn around? am i explaining where i mean????
Is there lunch involved? You know that's a big plus in deciding if I show :)

i don't need lunch on this ride as long as they have TONS of dudley bread (and they do!!)
and if course i DROOL the whole ride aniticipating the JULIAN PIE and ice cream at the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds good enough for me to show up.

some people put peanut butter on their dudley bread... i, myself just like it plain! (they do have other things besides the bread, too! i just can't tell you what.. cuz.. .uhm... i eat the bread! lol!)
I understand...I'm just greedy. It's a sad day when you gotta check out the menu prior to a ride :( oh well that's life :) So dudley bread huh? pie and ice cream.....yummmmmy

oh NO! i COMPLETELY understand! remember... I'M the one that hates the "menu" if you can call it that... at that freezing cold ride we did a couple of weeks ago.... 100 miles of cliff bars and gu... gag me! lol! bring on the REAL food, BAAAAABEEEEEEE! this ride is a GREAT food ride IMO! lol!

Oh yeah thats right:D I do remember now. I actually really liked the chili ..... I think.....or maybe I was just stalling to stay by the heater:eek: thats more accurate.

oh i ate the chili, too! i can eat just about anything junkie on a ride! it's the healthy stuff i balk at! lol! (i actually like cliff bars when they are soft and i don't have to eat a gizzilion of them all day long! i prefer rice krispie treats, danishes, pototoe chips, cheetohs (which i snagged at lunch on that ride so i managed to have some decent food!.... bagels... oh... you name it and i eat it! lol! )
but i've NEVER been dissapointed at an R&B (julian) ride!!!!!!
WOW I have got to check with you personally for all these rides.. We should start a thread about food on rides :) I hate all the power bars, and stuff. I dont even like peanut butter so some times I reduced to just eating an orange and a banana. I love the rides that have good stuff. If they have Coke or Pepsi at a rest stop....I'm in heaven :)
Soft drinks after the ride, but since you stop by the start finish before the second loop, you can have one there. An option is to have your pie and ice cream between the first and second loops.
Registration does open at 6:00 but if you get there by 7:00 you will be all right. We will register through 9:00 but if you are doing the full century I would strongly suggest an 8:00 start.
Lots of places to eat in Borrego after the ride. A couple of mexican places plus pizza at Carlys amongst others.
Palm Canyon Resort (the ride headquarters) has a breakfast buffet on Saturday starting at 7:00 A.M. They also have good lunch and dinner food and a pub. For those staying over to Sunday they have a champange breakfast brunch deal going.
Borrego is a great place to spend a weekend. Great hikes, of course more biking, a nice visitors center etc.
