Road Cycling - The New Ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK so in the end I went with AL... It's my first road bike in 20Y and my last one was steel... so it was time for some new materials. It does have a carbon fork - I'm thinking about a carbon seatpost.... but regardless, I'll let you all know how rough the ride is. :D
Going out for the "Birthday" ride this Friday - just pointing her in some direction and just going until I feel like turning around.
Haven't looked at the weather - hope it doesn't snow!!
Wow - she's too pretty to ride. Great looking scoot! :)
Sweet, can't wait to get one myself.

Great looking bike. Nothing quite as nice as a new bike.
Weather is supposed to be decent all week.
My wife and I rode Cherry Creek Reservoir yesterday - about 74F. What a great ride. We did the entire reservoir and adjacent roads and trails. The only problem was that the little creek coming from Quincy and Parker had flooded that particular trail and it was quite muddy. We usually ride up there for lunch, and had to turn around and go elsewhere. Did about 20 miles.

Drove past that very spot yesterday - and over on Arapahoe, was amazed at the amount of water flowing...great to see it back!!
My wife asked about the Cherry Creek Res. area yesterday. She asked if we could take a ride around that this summer... I asked how she planned on getting to the res. Her answer was "car" - seeing as we are about 10m from it, my preference would have been to simply ride to and from... I guess I shouldn't complain, she's at least interested in getting out there with me.
She's got an old Bianchi - Broadway... Communter bike - must be made of lead! I'm looking to fix her up on a new ride, but she's into comfort more than speed. We've looked at a Giant Cypress - which she loves.
Any suggestions?

We parked off of Jordan, just 1/2 mile north of Arapahoe. There are some new model patio homes there on the road to the Country Club and a sort of unknown but wonderful trail that takes off to the left. Goes 2 miles and joins the Cherry Creek Road around the reservoir.
About 1/2 mile, you can turn right over the bridge headed towards Quincy and Parker. But, that is the trail which is so muddy. You can walk it, but your shoes will be muddy and wet.
Anyway, keep going towards the road. Lots of wildlife - I have seen about 20 deer here - many birds. It is a wetlands area.
Once you get to Cherry Creek Road head left or right, and you can do the entire circuit. If you aren't familiar, takes a little exploring as it it not specifically marked. If you go left, go to the park entrance, go across the dam road into the Greenwood Village Park. Head down the trail. At the 2nd kiosk, the trail splits and you can go west about 15 miles to Confluence Park, if you desire. Or continue around where you will once again cross the dam road at a light. Go down by the campground, go left, up the hill on the access road with the bike lane. At the stop sign continue straight ahead and turn left at the bottom. Continue circling around. We had to ride through about 1" of water flooding the road. Too much H2O and the culvert can't take it.
In regards to the bike, Nora started on a mtn bike, wanted a road bike (Cannondale) which we bought, but, due to a couple of car accidents and a botched knee surgery, screwed up her back and knee and was unable to ride for a year. She now prefers the mtn bike again due to its stability.
Slow, but sure and steady.
Anybody want to buy a Cannondale?? :D

Would love to see if the wife would be interested - what kind is it? Size, condition, etc.... You never know maybe she'd go for that instead of a hybrid.

Sort of joking there. I think we will keep it for a bit, in case she wants to try again. It is a R300 with Sora. Only about 400 miles on it.
We are headed out to Parker United Methodist Church with the bikes in the van. After church, we go just across the street to a park right on the Cherry Creek Trail in Parker, will ride south about 5 miles, have a picnic lunch, head back. Nora will drive home and I will ride home with a few detours. She should get about 10 miles, me about 20.
