I'm a roadie interested in diving into mountain biking. i've been out a few times on a friends bike and absolutely loved it. One of my friends is selling his dullie 2004 Giant Warp DS2 and pedals for $185. Is this a good bike for a beginner? What are the advantages of dual suspension vs front. Hope everyone is having a good new year.
From what i understand, the Giant Warps are an outdated design that wasnt very good to begin with.
However, for $185, i think its still worth it. It'll give you a chance to really have a go at it, and if you decide you like it alot, you can save for a better bike later. If i had no bike, and someone offered me a warp for $185, id probably take it.

Alot of roadies may prefer a hardtail to a full suspension. Its faster climbing, usually lighter and more responsive. You can climb standing. Full suspension is plush, the cadilac of rides. But really more efficient climbing in the saddle. I have both, and really enjoy both. The hardtails I ride when I wanna climb and just get a good work out, mine are all Single Speeds. My full suspension I ride when I just wanna go have fun. Bombing down rough and fast trails, hitting jumps and drops. It is probably best to learn on a hardtail, cause it forces you to learn the skills, where as a full suspension allows ya to be sloppy and will save you at times.

Werd!
I rode the hardtail for quite some time now going down trails and stuff.. kind of like light-DH. I went to Blue Mountain and I rented their A-Line and hit the DH trails (black diamonds included) and I feel I did really well for a first timer.. the bike was so much easier to control over rough surfaces and in a turn!

okay here is the deal, Giant Warp is like what Flak said outdated, but if you are not planning to spend around USD300+ for a decent hardtail like Specialized Hardrock, then your friends Giant Warp is a good deal
