Bicycle Mechanics - Specialized Sirrus - rear rack mounting?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi,
I notice on the Sirrus' rear triangle, just below the seat and above the brakes, are 2 holes which have little plugs in them. Are these to be used for mounting a rear rack, or are these holes to be left alone?
Thanks!

I just bought a Sirrus, and I believe these are used to stick on a rear rack, and there are similar holes on the front wheel also.
Thanks!
I did a search of the forums and found a picture of a Sirrus with a rack attached, and it looks like these holes can be used for a rack. Just wanted to be sure!

When you see people refer to "braze-ons" for rack mounting, that's what they're talking about. They should be complemented by threaded eyelets on the dropouts, where you'd attach the rack's support struts.

Gotcha!
Just wanted to be sure, since I've never seen these holes plugged before (though I guess I've never had a new bike before).
Thanks for the help!

Notice also there are eyelets for the front rack too, if you are so inclined to add on front racks at some point....
I got the Specialized Sirrus myself, and I have the front and rear racks installed on it. It's a great bike to carry everything on.

Does it still look OK with the racks on? :)
Mine looks great with a black rack on the back!
Yeah, it still looks like a great bike- even with all the racks on it!
Most times, people see my bike and they have to comment- they are always impressed when I explain what the racks are for and how I now ride my bike everywhere instead of using cars and public transportation. AND their eyes get really big when I tell them that I'm now a winter riding gal too...

Koffee,
Do you ride the Sirrus in winter? How is it? I haven't tried that yet. I used to ride an old Schwinn mountain bike in winter, but that bike's gone.
Thanks,
Brian
Yeah, I ride it in the winter, and it handled pretty well- and I still had the racks on during the winter months too.
I had to change the breaks once, which was no problem at all.
