Southern California - Santiago Truck Trail ride, Saturday

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My Mt Bike has been getting neglected lately.
So,
On Saturday I'm planning on riding Santiago truck trail.
This is in So Orange county, near the end of El Toro rd.
It starts at the top of Madjesca grade, and is a truck trail that
has reverted back to mostly single track.
It is apx 8 Miles up, and a fun 8 miles back down.
One of my favorite rides, not a beginner trail, but anyone with marginal skills should be able to do it.
I will be riding at 9am, and will be returning around 12-1p.
anyone care to join me?

I ain't doing crap and would love to take the mtb out Sat. I'll have to see about a sitter though. I'll say maybe for now.

That would be great. Let's see if you can make it happen!

I may be able to make this. Where are you parking and meeting at?
Anyone care to join me?
Here is a link to the ride.
Parking is just before the gate, on the side of the road. It's free to park. There is plenty of parking, but to be safe be sure to pay attention to the No parking signs.

I can give directions from just about anywhere.
Let me know, I would like to have another BF person join me!

sorry, I'm taking my little boy to gymboree instead Sat.
we should put something together for the next weekend. I need to scout some of the trails out here and get you guys to come out. I've kinda had a hankering to do Chino again sometime now that I am in a little better shape.
Hmmmm.
thoughts?

Yeah, Tomorrow may be windy. But I'm gonna give it a shot as it's only 15 or so miles from the house.
And Bill, Next week would be good. Your in what, Riverside? hhmm.. let me see whats out that way.

On geoladders I have seen stuff about good trails near Perris lake and in Sycamore canyon (Riverside county sycamore canyon-off of the 15) but have never been to either. There is also Fontana where Jsigone has tried to put rides together before @ southridge park.

Is this the Sycamore canyon your talking about?

I believe this is the local trail for Jsigone.
It looks good, and I am determined to try new trails!
Oh, and try and train for my first century, ( road, not MTB :D )

Took me quite a while to find this. But is this the park?
Have you been there before? Is it a local ride for you?
I'm not sure on the century. I still need to get up above 40 miles on the road bike. Now that I ahve a speedo, I will hopefully know how much I'm riding.
I want to try a 65 mile or so around here. Have one figured out, just need the time, if I only had more time!!

Looks like I missed a good ride, wish I was there!!!
Sycamore Canyon up in Riverside is a bit of climb on the front end. Some buddies did it and told me about it, for I was suppose to go but had to flake out on them.
Sycamore Canyon here in San Diego is completly different beast. It has some of the modt diverse trails from the mild hearted fire roads to steep rock garden single tracks. IF any of you are willing to drive from LA/OC to the SD version of Syc Canyon, I'd love to give you the tour of the canyon and narrow creek bed single tracks.

I'm game for a drive to Sycamore in SD.

Wow, those pics are cool. I did this trail once, many years back and I really enjoyed it. I would love to do it again.
I read this thread too late though. If you plan on doing it again, I'll join ya'. I'm not the fastest rider, but I can crawl along just fine.

I'm also not sure what to ride this weekend. I would really like to do a 50-60 mile Road.
that would be my longest yet, and probably pretty well kick my A**.
But then, I'm game for this same ride, or even goin' to Sycamore canyon by you.
Any ideas? ( oh, and please don't say a century, I'm not ready yet!).

01-09-07, 09:41 PM
no century, my legs and lungs aren't ready yet, I'm trying to get some miles in so I can do that 200k ride on the 20th. I'm sure I'm not ready for it but I'll attempt it anyways.
If you want to try Sycamore down here, I'm game to ride that. Nothing as super fun as Aliso but there's a few fun/scary stuff at Syc and we can get some good miles in.
Or we can ride Aliso again, but switch is up ALOT. Like Climb Meadows, Down Mathes, UP Rock It, Down Lynx, Up Chola, Down Rock It and hit Coyote to Dripping cave. Would be one hell of a ride!!!!!
Iduno.....

know any other cool trails up there?????
here is what I ride in OC;
Santiago Trk Trail ( 18 mile out and back , 9 up which means 9 down)
El Moro ( lots of fire road, some good single track. )
Aliso woods ( well, we all know this!)
O'neil park ( fire road/singletrack many creek crossing, fairly level)
Whiting ranch ( really good, but dang it's short )
Bell View trail ( rolling fire road, no single track, goes from Santa Margarita to Caspers Wilderness )
Chino Hills ( mostly fire road)
There must be something I forgot...

With temp in the high 50's this weekend, I may just opt for a fairly short local also.
