United Kingdom - Looking for a cycling challenge

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking for something to motivate me to get on my bike.
I do the 'round the harbours' bike ride each summer, it's a 32 mile ride around Portsmouth with the BHF.
I'm looking for something a bit more of a challenge in the UK, south coast if possible, but something I can do in a weekend.
Ideally it'd need to be an organised event that I can't put off.
Does anyone know of anything?

Have you asked around your local clubs (or looked at their websites)?

Check out the Audax calendar, there are some well organised rides from Denmead near you.
Whilst Audax rides are mainly self sufficient and you have a route sheet to follow [no route markers] Pam & Dave always organise them well.
Or pop on a ferry and check out the Isle of White organised rides. There is one that goes right around the island approx 60 miles.

have a chat with the riders in www.cyclingplus.co.uk forums, they are mostly from the Uk
And google for cyclo sportives if you fancy a challenge like the hilly 100 or the dragon ride in Wales
good luck

have you consider trying to do the Trans Pennine Trail over a few week first weekend do say Southport to Liverpool then get the train back next weekend get train to Liverpool and so on it would be a big achievement to have cycled the width of the UK I did this not long ago it was very rewarding and you can get a certificate too to hang on your wall.

Thanks all, I actually took on the Isle of Wight ride, 62 miles around the Isle of Wight on the 6th of May. I managed to complete 69 miles in 5:45 (we got a bit lost so ended up doing more than the advertised 62 miles) which I'm really proud of as there were some painful hills. (being a clyde, most hills are painful)
I'm now looking for a century ride in the UK in the autumn, I'll start another post.
Thanks again for the advice.
Hi Steve2k. Motivation is what comes by riding regularly. once you get into a really fit mode. You soon realize what motivation means, as you cant wait to get on your bike again.
