I purchased a set of X0 gripshifts for my new bike. It comes preinstalled with a deraileur cable. I also purchased a set of Aztech cables to install on my new bike, so I would like to remove the existing cable. After looking at them I can't figure exactly how to remove or install a new cable. I know I should RTM but, I did and that thing confused me more :)

I think I got it figured out, I downloaded the dealer manual at Sram's web site.. (REALLY SLOW at work today). There is that plastic piece that comes off and you can push the cable on out.

Changing cables on Grip shifts can be an adventure. It seems to me like for each model the precess is a little bit different. Some require a significant disassembly and you have to be very careful with the internal cable routing. It sounds to me like yours are going to be easier than that.

Good luck!

I think I've read through the full manual on my SRAM stuff now hahahaa
Working sunday is drag it is so dead, but definately better then not working at all. Maybe I'll start reading through the barnett manaul now.

That'll prolly help you more than the SRAM manuals. When I swapped the gripshifts that came w/ my bike for the rapid fires, the Barnett deal really helped.

There are 1.1mm(standard is 1.2mm) cables for grip shift that help reduce drag in the system. You may find that the aztecs, they are teflon coated?, will start to drag after a while if you ride in dirty conditions. The coating will fray and bunch up in the housings.

Kev that had me stumped as I wrecked the der end of the cable when I cut it too short - duh? I put on a new teflon cable and even though I removed the rubber cover I could not quite loosen the cable end in the shifter. Trick I used was to run the shifter up and down the gear clicks and that loosened it very quickly.

How do you like XOs? I presume you opted for the XO rear mech as well. I find my XOs so nice to use. A good investment, eh?

I got the wrong front derailleur, so not got the setup all ready to go yet. Have the shifters installed.. brakes all setup now.. tires on.. crankset on.. Check my post New bike, you can see it mostly completed. Hopefuly will get the correct Front Derailleur tomorrow morning so will finish it tomorrow night. The build quality seems alot higher on the X0 vs the 9.0 I was previously looking at.

Yes indeed! It surely is engineered to the highest possible standards. Once I fitted mine, it looked almost, too good to want to use - but once I remembered why I bought it in the first place, I soon got out there and enjoyed it!

Tomorrow I'm getting that FD.. I want to ride it so badly!! Why can't LBS be open late, it sucks when you work till 7pm. I'm debating on doing the derailleur cabling right now.. I think I will then I can ride around the block tomorrow night atleast. I'm looking at getting a lX or XT front derailleur is there any good reason to get the XTR?

I can't see any advantage to the XTR front der. The anecdotal evidence I've read, and after speaking to the UK XO importers is that the standard lx front der ir more than upto the job.

That is what I figured.. a FD is such a simple device compared to the rear derailleur. And at a 1/3 the cost of the XTR I think I'll go LX or XT.

I know I should open up a 24 hour LBS, so you can shop anytime!! Anyone want to financialy back me :) hahaha To bad I missed the Supergo sale this weekend to get it.

Xo Grip Shift as well as 7.0 and 9.0 have what is called "SRS" or "speed release spool." YOu remove a piece of plastic or compsite to access the spool where you feed the cable through then simply feed the cable and reinstall the piece of plastic or composite. Adjust der's. accordingly, ride then enjoy.
