They have this thread under "commuting", I thought we could use one as well. It would also help us be aware of the bike path conditions, find out about new routes etc.

I'll go first: I literally had to bushwhack my way to work on Ballona Creek Bike Path this morning. A fallen tree had blocked the path! There were a lot of brances, debris as well. I called LA Public Works but I was transefered to someone's voicemail so I had to leave a message. Be extra careful if you are using that route.

My commute's only about 3 miles through Buena Park (the city with NO bike lanes) so even when it's chilly and windy like this morning, it's not bad.

a lightpost blew over at venice way and venice blvd. Kinda surprising since it was one of those concrete ones.

I will soon be going back to my previous gig of substitute teaching and plan to bike commute. I can't wait. These days I drive 35-40 minutes every morning and sometimes over an hour home.

I'm trying to figure out a good commuting route. The way into work is a breeze. Straight down topanga canyon to PCH into Santa Monica. Sweeeeeet.

The way home however, not so good. PCH is miserable, and I won't ride it in the dark. Not to mention I wont ride up topanga during the evening commute dark or not. I came home over Las Flores once... once. That hill is just a bit out of my extremely difficult zone.

The other option is to go from Santa Monica, into the valley on Sepulveda, parallel Ventura on side streets to Topanga Canyon. That's about 30 miles. Ugh.

If Mandeville Canyon connected to something, that'd be sweet. It stops at fire roads or something unsuitable for my bikes. @##$@#$

That explains why we didn't have power at my office for half the day, which is in Venice. No computers, no phones... that was one of the sweetest working days of my life! :)

My commute is generally great. In the morning me and the S.O. ride from Loma Portal in San Diego, out to Pt Cabrillo, and then in to work. Then, one big hill, and 5 miles home in the evening. This week we had a fantastic sunrise on Tues. and big winds on Wed. Keeps life interesting. Last week it rained like hell one day, took me all day long to dry stuff out.

Ride to work every day.

I won't get back to riding to work until the days are a bit longer. Then I will usually do once a week. Since Daylight Savings Starts in March this year, maybe I can get going earlier.

Well, now that I work AND live In Irvine I've been commuting by Bike almost every Day, it's less than 2 miles including a couple of hundred yards on the BB trail, so now I have my new Light I can do a loop of the BB after work at 8:30pm...:)

I tried an after work ride once and it was just too wierd with my "be seen" front light...it was completely dark...so after doing a survey here on BF I went for the Light & Motion ARC Li-ion....(Thanks Guys)...

Anyway, the record time for my commute is 14 minutes...probably half of that time is spent sitting at Traffic Lights.... I wish I could use my Road Bike but it's just too much hassle to change in and out of Road Gear for a 2 mile ride...at least I could make the Lights...

The nice thing is I haven't been to a Gas Station for 3 weeks....

Today's was pretty good. Left a little late because i forgot to pump up my tires before walking out the door so i ran back to take care of that. I think i'm slightly overdressing since i start sweating halfway through the first part of my commute (4 miles to the train station).

Hopefully my tights and shants/knickers will be here today so i can use them tomorrow since right now i'm using nylon track pants, leg and knee warmers, and my MTB shorts...

Well, I was cut-off by two cars in the same intersection. We all exchanged hand jesture pleasantries and moved on. And, I was still too early for work. Have already extended my commute by 4mi. What's another mile or two...
