I have a line on inexpensive high end ex-pro frames. I'd like to pick up a steel cyclocross frame for a foul weather commuter. I like my rack and panniers and would like to use them on this cyclocross frame.

How difficult would it be to add rack and fender eyelets? Where could I purchase them? (There is no frame builder here in Latvia, but I do know a pro wrench who has experience with frame repair who might be able to do it.) Thanks.

It's easy to do but it normally messes up the paint pretty badly. You would braze or weld them. These can be brazed with a propane torch. There are frame supply shops like ceeway in england, but these are just little bits of rod tapped for 5mm bolts and attached to the frame. Not worth writting away for. You can also work out ways of tying on frnders with zip ties, using brake or drain holes. ANd racks can be attached to axles, hardware held by the axels, or clips to the tubing.

I'm not so worried about the paint as this will be a winter beater project. I'm not to into zip ties and such as I carry heavy loads. Sadly there are no used steel touring bikes in Latvia, only high end pro stuff. Thanks for the help.

The rack carrier boss and rack dropout eyelets can be seen here (http://www.gaerlan.com/bikeparts/frame/brazeons/brazeons.html)
They are std parts for any frame-building supplier In (the uk, ceeway).
Often they are applied with silver solder for lower temperature working.

My LBS attached a set to my commuter hack bike for ~20 euros

I have brazed on 5 or 6 mm nuts that I picked up at a local hardware store rather than order the eyelets.
