Yup. Sure will. Denver won't see any snow till March and baltimore will be swimming in it. Well not swimming but you get my point.
Crud. Next week's forecast says a small possibility for snow. NOOOOO!

We had a winter storm warning last night and today. A warning not a watch. That usually means imminent, right? It turned out to be partly cloudy and 32-35. All winter storms should be so harsh.

Speaking of warnings, if the national weather service issues a blizzard warning, stay home. I went to work for 5 hrs and took 5 hrs to get home.

I beg your pardon. Last week in Fort Collins.

I want a blizzard. :( Seriously.
I lived in Chicago for about 6 years in the mid to late 90's, and it was the driest, coldest period on record. So we had bitter cold temperatures and howling glacial winds, but no significant snowfalls. Plus, in 1996 I missed that enormous east coast blizzard that buried Virginia (my birthplace and where I live again).

I don't know about you but my neighborhood still looks like that. After 3 weeks with one commute I am going to break out the MTB to ride 4 miles to the nearest park-n-ride rather than taking the bus from outside my home. That should scratch the itch. I wish I had the cash to pick up a decent used mountain bike rather than using my junker of a huffy.

I just rode 20 miles and I was overdressed for 47 degree temps. C'mon winter! Make up your mind!:)
I've reached the point of enjoying looking at pictures of snow.

Yeah there is a little bit of snow here now that I think about it.
LOTS of snow over here in Alberta! They've had to close a couple major roads through the mountains because of avalanches. Where I live, the temperature is warm enough right now (about 0C) but that is just making the roads (which have not been plowed since the last snowfall) like skating rinks. And by Thursday, our high for the day is supposed to be -22C.
So, all you people in the east ... I'll do what I can to send it all your way!!

yeha it still looks like that in my neighborhood too.
i live on a culdesac so they arent rushing to clear our street.
got my studded tires last wekend though and have been commuting all week. the studs are a lifesaver, paticularly friday morning, which was the slickest, iciest dayi can remember riding, and the studs made it relatively easy.
look for more snow this week, and some cold as hell mornings.

I wanted a set of studded tires. However, I spent my money on a ksyrium elite wheelset. A lot of good that will do me in this weather. d'oh!
Speaking of 3 weeks after the Christmas blizzard... FINALLY!

We're getting hammered in Anchorage, and no Chinook winds! Lots of white stuff. The berms on the roadside are well over my head in most places.

I know. Tonights forecast for the local region has a few snowflakes. i guess you are right
I guess we can leave the forum opened. I hear that the snows in Colorado are not getting to the resorts. This is really freaky.
FWIW I grew up in Utah and really miss the stuff.

:p So I just checked out the local forecast on weather.com, and the prediction for today?
"Today Jan 8 Cloudy 32°/21° 20% (chance of precipitation) Watch for Mosquitoes"
Note that this is Minneapolis, Minnesota!
Granted, the other days this week with chances of precip fall under the 32F high temp mark, so they say "Watch for ice and salt". I guess the mosquito warning is tied to that freezing mark, but even with global warming, I'm not prepared to worry about mosquitoes in January!
Hmmm... I guess I'm also confused as to how our weather is now starting to give us salt  . This is getting out of hand!

you just made me realize that if it does not get cold at all for the whole "winter"... there will be an incredible number of mosquitoes next spring/summer...
as a side note, last week, twice, we ate outside for lunch! no hat, no glove, no coat...
To all you folks that posted snow pics I hate you.;) Bring on the snow
:) ... i see that you are now missing winter too! ;)
that's exactly what i was trying to write a couple weeks ago... remember?

Ah yes now I remember duh.:) At least its starting to get cold around here.
How much snow is there north of Montreal? Just wondering about the cross country skiing conditions.

I put the studded tires on the spare wheelset so I'm all set. It's finally cold enough to snow but none predicted.. And they're predicting rain and 50s this weekend!!

:)
today we are also, finally, in the "normal" window: -11C (30kmh winds).
snow? terrible. i do not know how far north you are willing to go... i did go myself on a 4 day cross country ski trip (http://www.charlevoix.net/traverse/imraid/eraid.htm) during the vacation (2 weeks ago) and we could only do it because it snowed on our departure date (15-20 cm (lucky us)) but there's been nothing since then... and under that fresh snow there was something like 10cm of "white concrete"...
here is a link to crosscountry conditions for each Quebec region : http://www.geocities.com/skideal/IND3Bconditions.html (it will practice your french... ;))
camp mercier (http://www.sepaq.com/rf/lau/en/camp_mercier.html) is around 50% open (usually the first place to open and last to close) most places are just closed or more not-openned since i guess you first have to open to be able to close...
oh yeah, i forgot, some places (like tremblant) they let people walk/hike in the ski trails... since there is just no snow to damage...
Daily Commute
01-11-07, 05:31 AM
I thought about putting on my Nokkians for two morning commutes. They would have been nice for one of those two days, but the other one, the main roads were clear. Even for the one true "snowy" day, the roads were clear by the evening commute.
Instead of bundling up with spiffy gloves, mittens, boots, goggles, etc., I've worn bike shorts to work multiple times in both December and January.
This is weird.

Junker Huffy is a great winter bike! Too cheap to worry about and why trash a good mountianbike with the salt?

The FD is garbage, brakes suck, etc. Just not much of a fun ride.
Perhaps I should put a bit of money back into it. New cables, FD, etc
That may make it tolerable. I just can't get the horrible components adjusted very well.

I don't recall what size bike you ride, DataJunkie but before you go sinking money into a Huffy consider

At $200 you couldn't go wrong if it fits you;) Heck, you could spend that much just getting the Huffy adjusted.

I ride an older GF Intense(steel). I got it off craigs years ago. I was gonna replace all of the alivio comps when they broke down. Well 12,000 miles later I needed a shifter so replaced the whole drive train as well(except RD). This is one beast beater that run smooth as silk. Still original brakes, RD and wheels. All for $80.00. Charlie

Great minds think alike. I was looking at that exact bike a few days ago. I wonder if I can talk my wife into it. :p
Building a roadie and picking up a MTB may be a bit much for her.
Or I could put the roadie on hold and purchase the MTB and then accidentally take the roadie off hold a month later. d'oh!
It is probably best to cut my losses with the huffy and Craigslist would be a better deal. Now I would just need to find the proper sized frame this time.
Boy am I tired of working out in the gym. *snore*
