I asked this so that way we can kind of centralize ourselves and maybe get together for a ride???

We need more cities!!! Post away, everyone!! :D

Ha ha! "centralized" might be tough. But it would be cool to try to get some kind of ride together. I've ridden with a SteveE (he leads a ride every Saturday out of Los Altos) and some others that haven't chimed in here yet. I have to guess a fair number of us are roadies, and my preference would be for that. But I'd consider a MTB ride, too. I own a funky old MTB, also a 'cross bike that I'd consider doing some "lite" trails with.

I'm down for a ride in SF or the East Bay... roads only.. and ...slow. I sold my roadie and only have my singlespeed... can only keep up 100-120rpm for so long. ;)

We ride to Davis, Napa, Lake Berryessa, Mt. George...great combo of hills & flats up here, and off-the-cuff centuries when you're so inclined.

Hey 'nother! Do you think you can maybe organize a ride or two? :)

Maybe. It looks like there are a lot of San Jose or at least close-to-South-Bay folks that have chimed in so naturally I'm inclined to suggest something near here :)

I'm not sure of people's skill levels but for road rides, if you have decent group riding/pack skills, it may be worthwhile to join the ride that SteveE (http://altovelo.org/ride_calendar/b_ride.php) leads, every Saturday out of Los Altos.

For MTB, or let's just say "not road" rides: I don't do too much of those, but I have some MTB buddies that might be able to help select some routes. I'll have to check that out a bit more and get back to you.

One idea that would work for both roadies and MTB would be Montebello Road (http://graphics.stanford.edu/~lucasp/grade/montebello.html), it's paved but at the top there's a gravel road/trail that MTBs or brave roadies can take and get to more trails, or just go out to Page Mill Road. It is a fairly tough climb, though so I don't know how well that would work.

I'll think on it some more.

You got anything in mind?

OK, first off, some would say San Jose doesn't count as "Northern California" ;)
Secondly, speaking as an old time native, anyone who lives in San Francisco and calls it "San Fran" shouldn't live there. Probably the only people who are more provincial than City folks are New Yorkers :)

Now, that said, I live in Pacifica as it says right over there to the left.

I notice there is a cat from pacifica, bet he's ridden up montara a few times.

The all mighty Wikipedia claims that Fresno is in "Northern California" so if San Jose isn't in NorCal, then the geographic distribution is way screwy. Btw, I'm guessing Monterey isn't in NorCal? Where's the central valley forums? :D

FRESNO???? No joke? Where do they get that?
BTW, other than the way they drive, I have no truck with the fine folk of San Jose.
I had a teacher in college (who called it "The Armpit of the North") who thought everything from San Jose, south was Southern California. He lived in Atherton (excuse me, "Sharon Heights") so take it with a grain of salt. San Jose has come a long, long way.

Check it out! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_California)

The California state capital, Sacramento, and the state's largest inland city, Fresno, are also in Northern California.

I suppose it really depends if you think of it as broken into north/central/south, or north/south.

The US Census says we live in the "San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland Combined Statistical Area", the order of that title denoting the relevance of each city in the cluster. San Jose, then, is the official hub of the "Bay Area", if you're inclined to think as a statistician. http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/bulletins/fy2006/b06-01_rev_2.pdf

Yes, and the Jeffersonians say that Pacifica, and pretty much anything south of Marin County doesn't count as Northern California either. It just depends who you want to piss off. Speaking of which: you're officially un-invited to the ride :p

Also, it is officially The City of San José, or San José for short, not San Jose.

OK, so I don't ride, then. I go solo anyway, as a rule.
But point well taken... I've read Ecotopia. Technically, in geographical terms, SF/Pacifica is very much Central Cawl-ee-fone-ya.

So Jon (Pheard) and I are going to go ride in Walnut Creek today, Starting at about 1130. Iron Horse trail on mtbs from Heather Farms to Alamo and back. I will be wearing a BikeForums Jersey. If any of you see us, stop us and say hi. :)

Jon is from Pacifica, SaiKaiTai, you should join us next time - you two can drive up together.

I'm about 5-10 mins from Pheard but I'm a roadie... But I do have my wife's old GT MTB... One day I'm gonna hook up with Jon so he can kick my arse up some mountain trails unless he finally gets a road bike. :) But any ride will have to be a weekend and preferably slow since i suck and haven't been riding like I should be. Ugh!

I'd like to ride with you folks some day. I have a road and MTB though I'm not an experienced pack rider or MTB'er. I live in Benicia so the Iron Horse Trail is quite close to me.

How did I miss that you were referring to mountain bikes?

Rockville Park...Lagoon Valley...Pena Adobe -- that's all I know of. I tried off-road & discovered that I don't like it...sorry.

But any roadies, feel free to pipe up -- we love company!
