My second daughter (9 months) is getting close to being able to go riding with me. That is great. The challenge is that my older daughter (2 1/2) loves to ride with me in her bike seat. It is one of those Topeaks that fits as a rack on the back.

I don't want a trailer, but I want to take both with me.

Has anyone conquered this dilemma? Is there a double wide in the back?

What about one in the back and one in the front?

Maybe this is just a great opportunity to get the wife fired up...

Thanks in advance,
Steve

I have not see a double wide. One in front and one in back might work, but I would be worried about the high CG. How much longer can the oldest ride in the seat? Will she be able to fit in it until she is able to ride on her own? That is, will this solution be able to get you over the gap until they can ride or will you eventually need to think of another way (trailer, trail-a-bike) to get them out on the bike? I just don't know enough about child seats to say.

I just this yesterday on the Clever Chimps web site (http://todd.cleverchimp.com/blog/)…look at his “Bikey pics from Europe”. There is a pic of a bike with a seat on the top tube. A close-up pic is here… http://todd.cleverchimp.com/.../Image5.html (http://todd.cleverchimp.com/blog/clever_in_europe/clever_in_europe-Pages/Image5.html) Maybe it would work for the older one?
Good luck! -Jerry

I would really suggest a trailer. I got one for my son, and my daughter will be joining us at the end of summer. I always thought that the seat on the back made the bike feel awkward and unstable. I found I can go farther, easier with the trailer than I ever could with the seat. Good luck.

I agree with the trailer. I have used our to pull 2 kids with a total weight of 90lbs, and it way more stable than just a 35lb kid on a bike seat. It seams alot safer to me to have the kids closer to the ground and the can entertain themselves more it the trailer.

However you will get the fights over who crossed over the "line", but yours are too young for that yet.
