I'm moving to Wheat Ridge tomorrow and was wondering if there were any other folks here on BF in the area? It would be great to have some riding partners there.

Lot's of us around! I'm east of you in Park Hill (5mi east of downtown), Snowy is down south of you, Telenick is up in the mtns west of you, bmclaughlin is around you too, as are datajunkie and quite a few others (it's a long list :D)
Welcome!
Yes Zin I'm in Lakewood so not far from you at all!!! :)
I'm in Thornton but ride through your area from time to time. It has been a few months since I took my son on a 50 mile jaunt connecting with the platte trail to clear creek into Golden. I think bmclaughlin is very close to you.
I'm in Thornton as well. Always looking to ride. Just give me a jingle on PM. :)
and can you say STUPID SNOW! (I feel better now) :D
Thornton! Woo hoo! Someday we should meet up. :)
I did ride to wagon road this morning using my MTB. Egads that was tiring.
I hate snow! Not snowy. Just regular old snow.
That's cool Zin. Welcome!
Most definately DJ! 104th and Zuni here.
Small world. My mother in-law is at 104th and quilvas.
Thanks for the warm welcome! I can't wait to meet everyone.
I'm sick of the snow too! Guess I'll stick to my snowshoes. I may even try my back country skis agn. (broke rib the last time I was on them. :O )
I have my ice bike ready to go. Now I just need the motivation to ride that 50lb monster!
You and me both. I was going to ride it this morning to the bus but decided to take a different bus from outside my home. Then hit the gym after work.
I'm going stir crazy.
If this continues much longer, I am pondering visiting excel sports in boulder and picking up a set of 700C studded tires. My MTB is such a POS and I do not have the $$ to replace it.
Lately it feels like I have moved to Minnesota.
Do you guys use trainers or do spin classes to stay in shape during the winter months?
I'm on rollers, though I do have a 24hr fitness membership and they have spin classes (have yet to go)....
I'm just stewing in my own annoyance. Last winter was very mild and I missed maybe 1 week.
Rollers may be in the forecast.
My rec center has spin classes. Like superdex I have yet to attend but I usually grab a stationary bike and spin away. 30 minutes of high intensity spinning kicks my rear.
I go to the gym. Have a trainer at home but I'm never excited about using them I just want to get out and ride.
So I'll just stick to going to the gym until this freeze/snow lets up. :)
I'm over in Stapleton (not my choice!) and I still consider myself new to Denver. Looking forward to some serious snow & ice meltage ASAP. Haven't been on the bike in months, but looking forward to putting an end to my cabin fever w/ some nice rides.
I moved from New England to SoCal in '05 to get away from cold and snow. My GF (originally from Colorado) told me that winters were mild and dry in Denver, so we moved. The thing is, back in New England, they're getting record high temps and no snow . Even still, at least the sun comes out here and even though this is snowy winter by Denver standards, it's still better than a typical winter in New England.
We blame you! You brought the weather with you. :p j/k
hey celticfrost -- I'm a neighbor! I live between Quebec and Monaco. We should go ride (when the roads melt) :D
I have a trainer and rollers. I REALLY need to start using them one of these days. My last ride was over Christmas down in San Antonio. Starting to think I should have stayed there. ;)
I'm starting to think I should move there.:D

I've actually thought that as well. I'm NOT joking either. It's my 1st winter here and according to my gf's dad, it's easily been one of the snowiest in the past 25-30 years  .

Excellent! Are there decent rides right outside your front door or do you usually drive somewhere first? My bikes should be tuned and ready to go in about a week. Wish I could say the same for myself as I've been off the bike for about 4 months, but I'm more than willing to team up for a good 20-40 mile ride in as soon as the roads improve.

Same here. I hate rollers and the trainer even more, but once we move out of our 1 bedroom apartment and into a bigger place at the end of the month, then I'll probably start using the rollers a bit.
I've never been to San Antonio, but it seems a tad hot. I think that will be at least a few nice days in February and things will be fine by mid-March *crosses fingers*.
How did the move go Zin? I just moved into my house in Thornton (from Denver) and I don't think I will ever get unpacked.
celticfrost - Well, this time of year San Antonio is WONDERFUL! I wouldn't want to be there in the summer, however...
Pwnt - Thanks for asking! The move went well. I didn't have any furniture to move, so was actually quite easy. I live very minimalist right now. Once I manage to get a job, I'll get some furniture. ;)
The front range has a lot of trails.
The best PDF maps I've seen are from the Denver Regional Council of Governments.

Trail Central has a lot of trails also, mostly mountain bike (many metro trails are mine).

I have a couple websites that have gps uploadable tracks for over 800 miles of trails from Longmont to Castlewood Canyon State Park.
Original site: http://home.earthlink.net/~gps_dr
Newer site: http://groups.msn.com/GeoBikingDenver
And most recently I've added one that will replace the first after I work out issues uploading images.

Links on my sites link to a site containing slideshows of pictures from along some of the trails.

GPS_DR - Thanks for the info and the links. I can't wait to begin exploring this area.
You can also head over to golden and take the foothills rd\highway north to boulder. Golden gate canyon road to Golden Gate State Park is supposed to be entertaining as well. Plenty of hill training in the foothills. :p
Hey, Zin! I'm really not close at all but had to say hi! Seriously the past two winters I rode pretty much through, but now...man...I'm sticking above 20F and have the studs, but haven't even put them on yet!
datajunkie - Yeah! I'll be doing Lookout Mtn. as a regular training ride. 93 north to Boulder is also in my sites. :)
lala - Hey girl! Great to hear from you! I have my icebike setup with studded tires front and back too. However I've not been very motivated to go out in these very cold temps we have been having. :( Been working on the rollers and now realize how bad of shape I'm in. D'OH!
I got mine on the trainer last night and rode a little bit. Worried mostly about the fit. I think I am close on that now but we'll see this weekend. Have a buddy that is going to help me run through the set up.
By the way, anyone have a shimano 105 9 speed rear derailleur long cage they wanna GIVE me? :D
datajunkie - Yeah! I'll be doing Lookout Mtn. as a regular training ride. 93 north to Boulder is also in my sites. :)
Hi Wheatridge Guy,
While my screen name reflects my old loc, I am in Golden now, have been since last June. While I highly recommend Lookout, Saturdays and Sundays on Lookout you would swear they closed it off for bikes, 100-1 bike to car ratio and just about everyone in a great mood and nice. There are so many bikes the cars seem to really take care for the most part. I like ot hit it early in the morning during the summr and its about as peacful and serene as you can imgaine, the views are amazaing, the ride alone makes living in Golden worth it. Feeling ambitious, keep going past Buffalo Bills grave into Evergreen and do the 40+ mile Lariat Loop, nice climbs during the first half and then cruise down the canyon from Evergreen to Morrison, then back to Golden
That said, heading north on 93 the breakdown lane goes from wide open to narrow to non-existent in places with cars going 65 and in no mood to deal with the odd cyclist that ventures out. Wouldn't do it myself, others do.
Golden Gate canyon, another early morning classic, Sunday mornings between 6 and 8 I can make it to Golden Gate park and only get passed by 4 or 5 cars, I usually see more deer on my way than cars. While its a really nice ride up, the grade going down has to be the closest thing to downhill skiing's GS turns, fast arcing turns with little brake time, heaven.
When the hills aren't in the plan the Clear Creek to Ralston bike path loop from Golden through Wheatridge through Arvada is a flat favorite of mine. Clear Creek (Golden, Wheat Ridge) to S Platte (Denver) to Bear Creek (Lakewood) back up C470 frontage road is a longer loop with a few hills at the end but nothing major. Feel like more take S Platte all the way down to C470 and take that back up West and North.
God, we can go on forever, wouldn't we rather ride, go away snow, go AWAY!! I didn't move from Park City UT to be in the snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorrry, little rant there, as soon as its clear you are goign to love it. I know I have.
Yeah baby! Now that's what I'm talking about! :D
SNOW SNOW GO AWAY, DON'T COME BACK ANY OTHER DAY! (except in the high country) ;)
I'm just south of 6th Ave, and just West of Simms/Union. :) I get around all over, though. Welcome to Denver!

They have to be careful, there's easily enough bike riders to flip a menacing cager's vehicle down the side of the mountain. :p
Do you guys use trainers or do spin classes to stay in shape during the winter months?
I've ridden at least 10 miles every day. Well, except the two days that they closed the office (The storm before Christmas)
My mountain bike has a bent rim, now, though. Guess I need to get a new wheel.
Tried to take the bus in yesterday morning and the rack on the bus was frozen. :( Ended up just biking it on my 1 1/8" slicks. Was an adventure to be sure. :)
BMC thanks for the welcome! I look forward to riding with you!
