Recreational & Family - Classy looking commuter / recreational bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If someone is interested in an eyecatching, yet classy about town bike, check out the Electra Amsterdam:

They only make it in a 3-speed. I think the price is around $550.

It's available in a "Sport" or "Classic" look. The only difference I can find between them is that the Classic has that old-style rear fender skirt.

It has a full chainguard, generator lights, rear rack, fenders, and a coaster brake.

I like it when companies offer snazzy bikes like this.

There are a few more differences. I got to ride one last month (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=3509965&postcount=118).

Read your link. I agree that these bikes are not optimized for hills. They are city commuters / rec bikes. Even the name allude to this, as Amsterdam doesn't conjure up images of riding in the Alps. This would be a nice bike if one lived on say the north side of Chicago, in the near 'burbs.

Bianchi Milano $650. Nexus 8 speed.

Leather handgrips. Comfortable saddle. Silky smooth shifting. Lot of fun to ride. Handlebars curve back towards you. If I didn't already have three bikes(just got one for Christmas), I'd get one of these. Also comes in black.

The Bianchi is nice, I saw one in person and really liked it.

There are a lot of cool cruisers out there now, like this:

Felt has a large selection of cruisers. They look cool but they are very heavy.

Redline has a singlespeed commuter called the 925 "9 to 5".

+1 If I were made of money I would have one of these.

You were replying to my cool cruiser pics.

There are at least three companies with nice lineups of cool & retro cruisers & city bikes. They are Electra, Felt, and Schwinn. Here are some links to their bikes:

Some really neat designs, some of which are the designs used 50 or more years ago.

On the Electra page you have to click on "Cruiser" in the lower left corner, then move your mouse pointer over the names to see small thumbnail pictures. They got too cute with their graphics, to the point of it being less useful.
