I've noticed most of the women of Foo have longer hair (shoulder length at least) and their hair style suits them beautifully. Right now my hair goes to the middle of my back, is layered in the front but I am ready to cut it off short. Chop chop. The last time I had it "trimmed", the lady uh...accidentally cut it into a do like Rod Stewarts. Spikey and wild. Thirteen inches of me was splayed on the linoleum. I was so mad, I wore a hat to work. You know how Asian hair can get when it's short. Sticks straight up. Anyhoo.......
I'm dyin' here. I need your opinions on why or why not. Can't make up my mind. I talked to my friends and the guys say to keep it long, the gals say to cut it short. I honestly would like to shave it but I really don't want to be called a guy (although I am often mistaken for one as it is)..........
That's all.
I am not one of the few that has been blessed with a photo, so I can't offer an opinion.
I'm sorry, but long hair is awesome! Do you have straight hair?
If you think it would look good and you would like it, go for it! You don't need our opinions! :)
...but I'll give you my opinion anyway. I generally prefer women with longer hair, although short hair does look good for many. But I'm a man, so my opinion doesn't matter when it comes to this subject. Do whatever you want! :D

Oh, is this something to help you with your martial arts? Don't want people grabbing your hair?

Just get it layered at the sholder. Don't cut it short.

I had dated a Korean girl ( model ) with very long hair ( middle of back ). somewhere in the second year we were together she had it cut short and she was upset. I tried to console her by saying it would
grow back, ( I actually liked its new length). Well, it did but for the two years it took was not a week went by I did not hear how I should have talked her out of it...

It looks like you've got a lovely oval shaped face with a nice chin - short could work very well on you! How are you possibly mistaken for a guy?
Of course men say keep it long... most of them have no idea what a pain long hair is to deal with every day. I have long, thick, slightly wavy Asian hair, and I'd LOVE to cut it all off (it takes forever to blow-dry!), but my face is round so I'd look terrible. Besides, my husband likes the long hair on me... ;)
The one thing I'd miss with long hair is the versatility. I can put it up, wear a ponytail, flatiron it straight, curl/scrunch it, braid it, etc. Short hair gives you a lot fewer options.
Anyway, the most attractive woman is the one that is confident and loves the way she looks. Doesn't matter how long her hair is! :)

Siu. For instance. I gave my long locks down to beltline, to "Locks of Love."
Is there something wrong with cutting it to a little bit below your shoulders? For me, I've always found those asian girls with the knee long hair attractive. Take some of it off, but watch them as they do it so it doesn't get too short. But really it depends on what you want. If you want it short, do it short.

Thank you happyfeet! I get mistaken for a guy because of.......well - I'm different. I'm tomboy. When it was cut short like Rod Stewarts, I was called "sir" or "son" alot. Of course I will make sure it isn't like that again, though. Maybe all one length, real short?

Your hair looks good at the length it is. Shorter hair will be easier to fix in the mornings, but you also lose a lot of the options you have with long hair. If it is raging hot, you will have a lot harder time with the pony tail to get it off your neck. I always felt that older women look better with shorter hair. That doesn't look like it applies to you right now though.

Have you ever seen an asian girl with curly hair?

If you have thick hair like me (which it looks like you do), all one length could be problematic. I don't have a photo (thank goodness) but when I got mine cut in 7th grade from long to chin length, my hair poofed out like a triangle. It was bad. Some slight layering or tapering of the ends might be a good idea if you don't want to look like a trapezoid.

Yes.
Siu, whatever makes you happy makes me happy. But it sounds like you need a change more than anything. Why not try a wig in a short style for a week or two, and see if that makes you happy. If so, then you will know what to do.
I kind of regret cutting my long locks (down my back), but as a man, I feel that my shaved head and seasonal mohawk are just fine for me. But I do miss my hair. It was fun to hide behind and be mysterious.
I'm not saying that asian girls don't have naturally curly hair. But I personally have never seen a chinese or filipino girl with anything other than naturally straight hair.
Really though, if you get it cut right siu. Short hair could look great. Do what you like, and you'll probably end up being happy.

Well, I think you could get away with something shorter as long as you keep some body to it. I don't think short and straight would work well for you, but hey, I style mine with a set of clippers.

Siu, my hair is naturally straight and fine, and limp as spaghetti. I also spike and get funky with really short hair. But that's when I use gel and spray, and achieve some very artsy looks. 'Til it goes long again. Only reason I let it get so long, since last time I had it cut in 08/03, was 'cuz my husband liked it long. So I never cut it. But after, I did. To suit me. :)
Just do whatever feels right for you, and never forget: it does grow back. :D

*raises hand* What about a Korean girl with naturally wavy hair? Do I count as curly?
Pulled some pictures off the internet... I'm no hair expert by any means, but what do you think of the following, Siu? Personally, I think a shoulder length cut with some razored edges or layers would be best for you. Low maintenance, doesn't require a ton of goop to look good, and you'd still have the option to pull it back into a ponytail or at least a half up/half down style when it gets hot. Are you interested in bangs or highlights? Both can create a dramatic change if you're looking for one.

Oh thank you, happyfeet!! I like this one a lot! My hair was like this before I layered it. :) I don't like bangs, I feel like a little girl with them. I won't do hair coloring, it damages it big time for me. Currently I have no splits or drying. But you know what? I bet I can do this again since my shortest layer is six inches below my chin!! :) :) :)
And on another note ~ I forgot to mention my hair is longer now than in my profile.

I meant to add, if you go with a super short haircut, get used to wearing a lot of makeup if you don't want to be mistaken for a guy. I'm looking to get a new cut too, and one thing I noticed with the many short-haired models I've seen is that they are all wearing a ton of eye spackle. Somehow the longer-haired ladies are better able to pull off the "natural" look. *sigh*
Unless you're Winona Ryder. Now THERE'S a woman that can pull off a short 'do!

Now I just need to find something for me... I'm thinking about some highlights. Cuda and I were talking about it and he suggested red. It's been a while since I've colored my hair (5 years or something). I think I'd be ready again!

That would be nice. I do have some natural brownish highlights, but this fall and winter has darkened my hair considerably.
Hair is fun. :p

My natural color is blonde with shiny red streaks. But I always hated it. Strawberry blonde doesn't look red.
Now I have a habit of bleaching my hair into straw. Sometimes little kids mistake me for a scarecrow.
