good morning everyone.
two years ago I spent lots of time looking High and low for a older 80s 90s touring frame but to no avail and didnt find one . so I bought a surly Cross check frame and built it up for my commute beast.
the cross check is a nice way to go but I longed for a relaxed comfy older touring frame.
well the other day (2 years from building up the XC) we dropped a sofa off at the salvation army and I saw a pile of bikes and one was a Univega gran turismo.
it looked in pretty good shape (frame was nice and clean) it was dark out though so id have to go back for another look, the bike was out back in the drop off pile not inside yet.
the frame was a blueish gray color and was the right size for me plus had lots of braze ons and the brakes were cantis instead of diacompe center pulls (newer model 90s pehaps).
can anyone tell me
1) about this bike in general
2) if this would be a worthy project , though I would not keep many of the components the univega geometry looks more comfy than my cross check so would this be worth building up with all the parts from the cross check for my commuter , and use the xc for a ss ...??
many thanks "John"
