I was refered here by Nermal, a friend from a different forum. I'm 57 year old teenager musician /dj who resides in Raleigh NC and I recently have re-taken up bike riding, something I really enjoy. I also do cardio work 60 to 90 minutes a day, lift three days a week (all appearances to the contrary) and enjoy feeling good. I've never done any "serious" riding, and I don't belong to any clubs.... my work schedule precludes me from being much of a joiner because I work odd hours and a varying schedule. Nothing I like much better than filling my i-pod up with 70's and 80's hard rock and metal and riding though.

I recently learned that there is an NCDOT maintained 700 mile bike route from the Mountains to the ocean and want to get in shape to try and ride it this summer. I'm completely ignorant of how to train or properly equip myself for it though and Nermal told me this was the place to come for advice, so I'm looking forward to meeting some people and getting some great tips and advice.

I don't have an expensive "pro" bike...right now... just what they call a comfort bike...21 speeds, pretty standard stuff.

Definitely check out the touring forum and don't worry, you don't need an expensive pro bike. I live in nearby Durham by the way. I went on Cycle NC this past fall and rode 450 miles on my 21 speed hybrid (Banner Elk - Emerald Isle). Welcome to Bike Forums!

wow... how long did it take and how many hours per day did you log? That's the kind of thing I'm interested in.

It was a week-long event. I spent between 5 and 7 hours on the road each day I guess (including rest stops and stops of interest, etc). Those who didn't stop much were to the next camp in 3 - 5 hours. I like to take my time and take in the sights and sounds. Here's a link to the ride: http://www.ncsports.org/nccyclemain.php
