Southern California - Anyone Pull Kid(s) in a Trailer?

I've got a 1.5 year old son who loves being pulled around in the Burley trailer. We can get a good 10 miles in before he needs to get out and start running around. (But if we stop at a park mid-ride, then I can't get him back in the trailer!) Even with a short ride, Daddy still gets a workout because of all the weight he's pulling up hills - even passing some other riders uphill on occasion!

I usually do a ride leaving from the house, since the extra time being strapped in the car seat limits our riding time when driving somewhere for a remote ride. Or if I think he'll still be happy after a drive, we'll drive down to the Newport Back Bay and do a ride there, along with a little out-and-back on the San Diego Creek trail.

Anyone else pull their little one in a trailer?

I used to but my boys are rather large now.:D

I used the Burley until combined weight of then both started to push the 90lb weight limit. I only rode on bike trails though - open roads were too spooky for my tastes. It's a great workout dragging the little boat anchors!

we've used those for midnight madness rides, but not for towing kids, but our cooler full of beers.

I'm sure once I become a dad one day, I'll be towing my kid around til he's old enough to pedal a tandom.

I ride with my son (5 1/2) on a trail-a-bike and my wife takes our 19-month old on a topeak rear seat (http://www.bikesomewhere.com/bikesomewhere.cfm/product/60/2773/9631?g=1). I find the rear seat better than a trailer as it takes up less space on the path.

Sort of a toss up, they problem with the rear seat, if your bike takes a tumble, so does the seat, that's a good 3-4 foot fall. The trailer won't take the fall, so there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Just everyone, make sure the kids have helmets in either case, please.

When I was back East I went down on ice with the Burley in tow. My son thought dad was really funny. A bike seat would have been ugly though.

I pull my kid around...but dangit! All he likes is going up hills. I currently (at this second) don't have a rig to pull him. I need to rebuild one of my bikes as a trailer-hauler again. Great training.
