From Cyclingnews:

...In 2005 he told the London Free Press that: "you wouldn't be far wrong if you said a third of hockey players are gaining some pharmaceutical assistance."

However, Pound told the New York Times at the weekend that the level has not been officially qualified. "Sitting in his office, I asked him how he came up with that estimate," wrote Sokolove. "He leaned back in his chair and chuckled, completely unabashed to admit that he had just invented it. 'It was pick a number,' he said. 'So it's 20 percent. Twenty-five percent. Call me a liar.'"

I think America needs to buy the Tour de France. Lance should buy the rights to it, just to piss off the French.

His latest qualifying effort for unemployment was a recent quote in the Times about Floyd's level of testosterone being so high he should have been f..ing multiple women instead of riding a bike.

Floyd and his trainers should have tested the blood he was given for synthetic test. before they re injected it..

Yep, combined with the comments about Floyd in the thread I started should cast serious doubt on Mr. Pound's suitablity for his current position. In fact the hockey stats may even be worse. He ADMITS that he just makes stuff up. Dick Pound should be immediately removed from his position at WADA.

While he may be passionate about what he does, his complete and utter lack of professionalism should get him fired from Wal-Mart, not to mention the WADA. What a joke.

These tasty quotes are just some of the many reasons he should be sacked. He has no credibility at all and his attitude that all athletes dope makes it impossible to trust the testers. I really don't see an end to this until he is replaced with someone more responsible.

Either that or stored the patches in a cool place ;)

I'm actually kinda scratching my head.

He's a lawyer, a tax lawyer but a lawyer nonetheless. Why would he made such stupid comments? I mean I can understand if Mike Tyson said those stuff. But a lawyer?

Here is a good one..

"He was 11 minutes behind or something, and all of the sudden there's this Herculean effort, where he's going up mountains like he's on a goddamn Harley," Pound told journalist Michael Sokolove. "It's a great story. Wonderful. But if it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

The reason he should go is no one can win without being guilty....win a time trial by a min and your guilty.....the rule is you can win but not by to much or you are guilty...there is no way I would want to be a professional and have that on my head..

In my opinion that is the reason that riders and teams should demand that he step down. He is head of the org that out of everyone involved in cycling, should be neutral and scientific about everything they do. They should have no opinion just data and facts not lies and speculation.

Pound is a very bitter man who missplaced his trust in a dishonest rider years ago and now has made it his life effort to not only not trust racers but assure himself that they are all dirty.

What is his problem? I mean does he think he can get away with this?

Where is this guy from originally?

Canada. Sally Jenkins wrote a very good piece on Pound's defense of Ben Johnson when he tested positive in the Olympics. Pound was head of the Canadian federation at the time.

I am embarrassed to say he is Canadian. He was an Olympic swimmer back in the 60's and then he became president of the Canadian Olympic Committee. From there he went on to become the Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee.

In fact, I am so embarrassed by pound that, on behalf of all Canadians, I would like to apologise for his conduct to the international cycling community. Really, most of us Canucks are so polite it's....embarrassing.

Landis' guilt has nothing to do with Pounds idiocy. Landis can be guilty and Pound can be an idiot at the same time.

+1

He lives in the heart of hockey, Montreal, 25% is pretty conservative, guys I knew who even played junior hockey all juiced.
The average size of football and hockey players since 1950s has gone up by 50-60 lbs -evolution?

Hazarding a guess (informed or not) was irresponsible even if he was essentially correct. I don't know if his behavior was irresponsible enough to merit legal action but it was absolutely not in the interest of anti-doping to undermine WADA by making up accusations.

He's been taking shots at my Grandmother recently as well.

Has there been a thread about his relationship with Samaranch and the IOC? Talk about bad company.

I am amazed he can criticize the honor and fairness of pro cyclists when he rubs elbows with that crowd.
