Southern California - I'm going to try sculpting

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am going to make a sculpture, something bike themed, and I've already drawn it out.
More directly would be bikeFORUMS themed. My dad is a trained sculptor, so he could probably help me out. I just wanted to inform you guys.
Post pics of your MTBs and BMX bikes :)

Take a piece of granite and chip away anything that doesn't look like a bike.

Thats a funny joke.

:D
Use marble.
Granite is much to hard, you would dull any steel very quickly.
I would know, I sell granite for a living:D

Granite slabs? Like for kitchen countertops? Would you give me a discount cause I'm you friend from Bikeforums?

My bad -- it should have been marble, but I took it for granite. :D :D
(y'know the old jokes still come back to me, even after all these years)

is stone really the ideal medium to work with in your first attempt at sculpting? what about plasticine or wood?

sculpting is a fun deal. once you finally start getting the results you want it's actually a little addicting.
here's a mold i carved/sculpted a while back to make rc car bodies.

I vote for wood. Nothing like a band saw and a file to prove your artistic salt.
Well, a really nice band saw and an artillery of files, sanding discs and drums, microfiber papers, tung oil, and a heap of patience. Then make it into a lamp. That'll show it.
anyone ever heard of clay ?? Or maybe for his age play-doh ;)

Geesh, I had wood shop in about 1970, I think making a pipe was one of the assignments. (although I don't remember)

Three vampires walk into a bar and the bartender takes their drink orders: two bloods and a plasma.
"Great," the bartender says, "that's two bloods and a blood lite!"
