Touring - Started my LHT build

Budget allowing I am starting to collect parts and build up my LHT. For those that are interested here are the parts I have finally decided on. I'll also include items for touring and camping that I'm using.

looks great but id recc the shimano br-550 cantis and the shimano tiagra brake levers, much nicer quality than the tektros. i've used both.

Oh man, this is going to be sweet. It reminds me of my LHT looked like as I waited for parts and got all my other gear together. For like two weeks the only things on the frame were the headset, the seatpost collar, water bottle cages and the stem. Good memories. Can't wait to see the final build!

Greenstork, I'll add it all up after I buy everything. So far I've bought the frame and fork, headset, stem, seatpost, waterbottle cages, shifters, and the Kelly take offs. Totalling 580.00 dollars. The Shifters, Take-Offs, and seatpost are in the mail from ebay sellers.

I'm trying to imagine the stem in the flipped position. Would it be level or pointing down? If it were level it would have that nice traditional look. If you do flip it you will need more steerer tube than the other way. That's important to consider before you decide how much of the steerer tube to cut off.

I heard from my local bike shop guy that the LHT is available for $900 ready to ride. Alex 36 spoke touring wheels with DT spokes, LX hubs, Sugino crank 48x36x26, 11-34 rear, Deore deraillers, bar end levers, Tektro brakes, etc. In cherry red or utility blue. I'm looking at purchasing the Red one, ready to ride.:D

This is great! I'm craving a new bike and an LHT looks like just the thing. I can't afford it, but you know how that is; I'm still trying to find a way. I'm thinking I can possibly afford the frame, then I can catch my breath (and refill my wallet), and then start buying components here and there until I eventually have a nifty new ride.

I have a request. I would love it if you would post from time to time and let us see how you're progressing. I'd also like to hear about the process. One thing I'm very curious about is how much of the build-up I can do myself, and how much I'll have to take to my LBS. Any comments you or anyone else has about that aspect would be much appreciated.

I plan on getting another stem that is adjustable to use to mount the handlebar bag, that way I could still use the flatbar brake levers. The Profile Stryke Aerobars flip up arm rests will allow access to the brake levers.

I can't afford a complete new bike either. So I'm doing just that, buying stuff when I see a deal on
ebay or on a clearance table at a bike shop.

Here's a breakdown of prices I've paid for what I have so far.

330.00 for frame and fork, at a LBS
107.00 for Chris King headset, same LBS
5.00 for stem at another LBS clearance table
1.00 each for plain, black water bottle cages, same Clearance table

That's all I got so far. I just keep an eye out on ebay and sales at online bike retailers for other items.

Thank you. I have to admit that the bike is very much inspired by other people's LHTs here on the BF and the internet. The fenders are SKS Chromoplast Fenders 45mm. I've very happy with them.
