No self-pity here.

If anything, I pity the drivers who don't even know what they are
missing.

But fact is, I am alone (almost.)

When I ride to work, I am in my own world. Cyclists know where I'm at. But I'm not around cyclists. I am alone in a motorist's world, one in which they slumber contentedly, unaware that that lone cyclist out there has actually proved cars are not the only way to get to work.

I notice things they will never notice in their cars. I notice how the rain last night has changed the debris patterns on the edge of the roadway. I notice the stretches of road that always have pebbles, even after years of traffic. I know the familiar cracks and ripples and pits (not potholes, but gouges out of the pavement...where did these come from?) I am prepared for that hanging branch that stick out into the roadway. I know how much it will take to top the next hill and keep a good pace. And I especially love to discover new ways to get where I am going, even if it takes me well out of my way!

I love to see other cyclists, even if they don't wave! I know what they are experiencing, and I can relate to their world.

Motorists, get on your bikes! (We don't bite!) ;)

Not alone - a soloist.

Personally, I think this is one of the best things about cycling. It gives me time to think about things going on in general life and how they can be dealt with. I also seem to be able to think more clearly when riding (blood circulation perhaps?). I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Me too.
When I drive I MUST have the radio playing so I don't get so focused on the traffic that I get "out of control" like other drivers. That's how road rage begins.
Many folks think cycling is dangerous but driving isn't any safer.

At least when I'm cycling I'm not in a big hurry like motorists. I'm enjoying my thoughts, the sights, the sounds, and the freedom.

I'm beginning to dread the days I have to drive because of obligations or appointments across town! :(
