Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - Looking for good rides in the Pacific Northwest

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm starting to put my ride calendar together for this year and was wondering if anyone on BF has ridden the Oregon Ultimate Road Ride?

I have a strong preference for long rides with lots of climbing (preferably with great scenery) and was wondering which ones people like best?

My only limitations are that I need rides that I can do by myself or easily purchase support. Vacation time is limited so one day events are best.

We are preparing to build a new home in the Stayton-Sublimity area (between Salem & Corvallis) and a local map shows at least one covered bridge with miles of proposed bike trails(haven't confirmed their status yet). There is a large Forest Service campground near Sublimity and there are other campgrounds nearby. Looks like a good area for overnights or day trips & I'm looking forward to exploring it by bike this Summer. Don

Check out SIR and the Oregon Randonneurs:

From what I understand they both do A LOT of rides of all shapes and sizes.

You may enjoy my blog: The Long Haul (http://escapevelocipede.blogspot.com)

I live in the Portland area, and I love doing long-distance day rides. My blog is basically about the rides that I've done and the routes that I've discovered.

Hey, just some of your Long Haul Blog - sweet stuff ! Definitely diggin your sense for exploration. The organized events are cool in there own way, but I think you're on the right track to seek out your own route and time.

Question - ipod: yeah or nay ?

Thanks! Glad you like it. I love exploring, but the nice thing about organized rides is that they are wonderful for demonstrating that it's actually possible to go to a place by bike. In this, they suggest new areas to explore.

I don't own an ipod, but I'd love to ride with one if I did. I'd use a helmet mirror at the same time, though.
