Heres the thread: http://www.bmxboard.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/033921.html
He is trying to sell the frames for $1200!

Best part:
The frame I originally built was kind of crude so I decided to refine it a bit
The "refined" frame:

I think the original frame must have just been a pile of old car parts that he duct-taped together.

Wow. That's crazy. The dumbest design for a frame I've ever seen. I even have to say, this is the worst idea I've ever seen... even worse than what Eastern has been turning out.
Wtf is that...9.8 lb frame! bmx racing bikes weigh that much lol. Thats Crazy!

By "trail bike" he must mean those paved paths where joggers and fat old people on walmart bikes ride all the time.

i agree that that frame is worthless, but it made me think of something...how come bmx frame manufacturers have not made it commonplace to replace the down tube/top tube combination with one larger frame tube/channel? many other kinds of bikes are making more frames with this design because its better - including gravity assisted mtb-ing who's frames take a pounding, why has bmx frames design not kept up with the design and fabrication technologies that the others bikes have taken advantage of? just wondering, not trying badmouth bmx frames cuz i dont do that kind of riding with the, but im a bike junky and im always thinking about bikes and other wheeled machines i tinker w/

Its pretty common for racing BMXs and MTBs to be made of box or formed sections of aluminum because with the right CAD tools, you can make them very stiff for their intended loading. The only problem is when they crash.
BMX street bikes are made to take all types of loading AND crashing, thats why they're made of straight gauge chromoly tubing.

DH frames dont take near the pounding a BMX does when you ride street.

Actually that looks like a Specialized Fat Boy or whatever (i didn't read the posts i just looked at the picture, so it probly is and i didn't read...) but plenty of people bought that bike awhile back....
I'm sure those will sell out quick. When they're $5k on ebay, you'll wish you bought one.

Bikeforums pwnage.
Why do people spell it like that?

Dayzennconfuzed,
Let me know how your double butted downtube holds up when you slip an abubaca and land it on a spine.
(I realize frame manufacturers are making butted BMX bikes for the weight *****s out there, but the majority of them are still straight guage. thx for the 'uber pwnage' though)

my frame has a double butted downtube and has only one very small dent in it (i slipped on a tire ride on a square metal ledge and hit the corner).
my frame also weighs 5lbs 11oz so its not like its an overly light frame.

Mines around the same weight, no need for insanely light frames

You'll start to realise that it isn't good to have a light frame. I thought the same as you about 6 months ago

Eh. I don't want a heavy frame though. I might get one of those super cool wtp frames if they are any good.

I don't know if my Solid has a doulbe butted downtube...but i've never had any problems and knock on wood, i've never dented any of my frames. Except for on the chainstays from grinding. But i don't ride pegs or grind anymore, so my frames stay nice.
And the 'uber pwnage' was sarcasm on my part...
