i have a trek 4100, and the fram is about the only thing thats standard on it, but my problem is that i have a deore crank set, i replaced the large outer ring for a race face bash gaurd, and took off the granny ring, and have put a dmr chain guide on, but it isnt inline with the 32 tooth ring, and the chain keeps falling off when i go into 1st and 2nd gear.the bottem bracket is standard and im wondering if the taperd axel is too long for it to sit closer to the frame.

any sugestions would be appreciated.

So you are using a single chainring at the front with 8/9 cogs at the back ?
The chainring should be inline with the central cog. As a triple, it should already have been setup this way.
Chainguides may be designed for singlespeed, with a fixed chainline, rather than a variable one of a 1x8 system. Try using a front mech as a chainguide, without a cable to start with. It works for me.

Im running 9 speed lx at the back. im running the 32 tooth where it comes, in the middle, but its running more where the 44 tooth should be. i have a mate who's running a simular setup without a chainguide, and it stays on? am i cursed?

You say the chain guide is not in line with the chain ring, maybe that is the cause of your problem, the guide is pulling the chain off. I have two trials bikes running 8spd cass., single ring in the front one 30t one 32t with a bash ring and they never hop off. I do run the chain short, just long enough to let it shift up on to biggest cog. Take off the guide see how she works. If it still shifts off try a narrower BB.
