So far, yes, unless it starts to rain. Leaving from the corner of the SART and Taft Rd in Orange at 5:30 and truning around at Featherly Park.

Man it's going to be cold.

the day was too filled with busy stuff. Went out just before dark. Rode in the dark for maybe one hour. THe road was uncharacteristically quite. It felt great. Thanks for some new winter gear, I did not even feel cold. .

Hope you guys get a ride in before the rain heads your way!

Already did, on the trainer.

Already did 26 miles down to Seal Beach and then home. Nearly got right hooked about a mile from home. Actually followed her into the parking lot to cuss her out for a couple minutes. I haven't been that pissed in a while. It motivated me to do a few quick climbs of the overpass by my house though.

Did my regular 30 min hill repeat ride near my house. Not much mileage but a lot of effort in a short ride. No rain here in Riverside yet.

Rode home from work today, beat my personal best by 5 minutes, even though I was on my slower "rain" bike. Must have had something to do with the wind blowing south to north due to the storm front blowing through.

We ended up going on our ride and even though 2 guys pulled out we had a good ride. For the first time, I over dressed and got way overheated, so on the way back I took off the jacket and the balaclava. I was freezing on the way back and it felt great and forced me to keep my speed way up (for me).

*sigh*, I wish. I keep getting sick so no riding for me tonight. Thursday's is my usual MB night in Fullerton, but I want to be better for weekend riding. It's the great indoors for me

You went with John? Where did you guys ride? I'm so jealous. :( I was at work until 7:45pm. I had NO workout today (2 days in a row - NOT good  ). So, humor me :o Where? I'll join next time. John, I'm ALWAYS up for a night ride as long as I know enough in advance to bring my bike to work. I need to get in 2 nights/week. At least through April due to double training. Then I can back down to one night/week (although, why? :p )

Nah, 1955 must be talking about someone else.

I did go out for a ride tonight by myself, however, to test out my wetsuit. I ended up dropping down Rosemount into the Rosebowl (which I really need to stop doing at night), headed down the Arroyo to South Pasadena, went E to San Marino, climbed a nice hill (Virginia Rd I think), went east to Sierra Madre Blvd, looped around, came back up Wilson by Cal Tech, and on home. I like riding through that part o Pasadena/San Marino, it's quiet, and the streets are nice.

I go out almost every night during the week between 7-8, you're always welcome to join me (we could meet at the bowl, it's pretty close) and cruise around the area. I usually have no idea which way I'm going when I leave the apartment, though... :D

How about Thurs. of next week? You just lead the way and I'll follow! I love quiet streets in the dark. :)

Sure, we can go do some nighttime hill climbing around the Rosebowl (slow descents, of course) and maybe a run down through San Marino. My NEW compact crank is supposed to arrive and be installed Wednesday so I'll be itching to play with it and see how it compares to by double.

I should be able to make the Griffith Park ride the night before, as well. I'm sorta kinda considering attempting Butterflood, so I should be out riding quite a bit for the next month.

Maybe that brevet in SD, too... :D

I went with Greg, Lenny and Francis; we leave from my office in Orange at the SART and Taft. You are more than welcome to come along, but it might be a long drive.:D

I'm seriously considering both and they work well together so that I would have the century last weekend, then the Stage Coach and the SD Brevet as stepping stones to Butterflood. I'm trying to come up with a good 150 miler, too, before Butterfield, any ideas?

I'm already signed up for Death Valley in March, too, and really want to go for the Solvang Double at the end of March. Those two would be nice for my wife, too, as she'll poke around DV while I'm out riding and she can have a nice day to herself in Solvang.

I am sure she has no excuse. Motorist are a impatient bunch. Never hurts to review one's degree of reflectivity and illumination. I ride with like four lights and reflecterized bands on every appenditure.
I rarely ride at night. I liked the quitetude of last nights ride. THink I will do it more often. After about 7 pm, here in the country, there is so little traffic, the road is yours and yours alone.

I don't know 150 other than if you tack 25 miles onto the SD brevet. But personally, I'm not one to do 150 before a double. I don't think it necessary - but others choose different ways of training (God forbid I start another debate in this thread - it's just MHO :o ). I may do the Solvang Double myself, especially if I don't finish Butterfield in time to qualify.

I'm still working out whether I'm going to be able to sit in the saddle for 200 miles. I had some numbness during the 100, but it was my first so I'm hoping that doing it more frequently will help shake out the issues prior to Butterfield.

Butterfield and Solvang down, only one more to the Triple and two to the Grand Slam.

I'm thinking about this one to wrap out the Triple Crown...

Probably not going to do it before Butterfield, but I'm planning on some rides to San Diego before the Solvang Double. From Amtrak in Van Nuys to Amtrak in SD, it's about 150 miles (maybe 151 or 152). So, I'll park my car in VN, ride down to San Diego, then train back.

Only thing I'm trying to decide is which train to take back. There's a 4:00 and a 6:50. So, I'll probably take off really early to make the 4:00 train.

As I figure out more details, I'll post and let people know in case anyone else is up for it.

Hi Joel.......just curious, have you mapped out a route south from the south bay area? I would imagine that portion would be the least desirable part of the ride heading into north OC.

If you want 150, just park about 10 miles away from the start of the SD Brevet and ride to the start. :) I think Mission Bay would work for that approach.

I would imagine that portion would be the least desirable part of the ride heading into north OC.It definitely is - I've ridden it a few times in the past and don't have a great route yet, but I'm looking at some options.

Honestly, I took PCH a couple times through Wilmington and Long Beach (cutting over to Ocean in LB) and it was okay but ONLY because it was about 8:30am on a weekend so there wasn't much traffic.

Part of the reason I want to do the route all the way to SD and take the train back is that I've done out & backs to Huntington Beach before and coming BACK through Long Beach & Wilmington later in the day is seriously ugly with truck traffic and other stuff.

Does anyone have a 150 loop through LA/Orange County? Does any club do one that might have a route slip?

what is dispappointing. Can't seem to interest anyone else in a night ride. Even offered to share one of my top notch lights. Why. Think it not safe? I suspect they think it takes away from family time?

magicant

For me, it's not about family time. It's about what time I get done with work and then go to bed. But I work a long day, so I only have about 60 - 90 minutes to ride after work and still allow me to have dinner & do the other things that demand my attention in the evening.

I enjoyed the Griffith Park ride the other night and will probably continue to do that for the social aspect more than the riding, since I generally prefer the longer rides.

It took a lot of work, but I finally convinced one of my buddies to give it a try and he also love it, so then between him and I we have now convinced five others to buy lights and ride about as much as the regular evening rides we do in the summer.

Make the first one a real short ride or something, anything to get them out at least once. Don't give up, if they just try it once they'll be hooked like you.
