Well, for todays little adventure, I rode up beyond one of the local lakes. The round trip shows a little over 50 miles on my Bell computer, but it only works part of the time, so I'm not really sure how far I went, but it was at least that far! The lake road is full of hills, some just easy rollers that you can fly over, and some that leave you wishing for Petes' Granny! It was really a nice ride overall!
I left home at 7 AM, with a temperature of 72, and the humidity near 100%. I just took it easy, and enjoyed the 12 miles of relatively flat terrain before the start of the hills. I reached the river road, and actually handled the hills with little difficulty. Felt pretty good to get the old heart a pumping! When I got to the north side of the lake, as I was working my way up a short hill, I saw a black angus bull grazing on the grass in the road ditch. I slowed up, because you never know what a bovine will do! Sure enough, as I neared, he saw me, and started running down the ditch. The bull then tried to get back through the pasture fence, but that didn't work, either. So then, he turned and advanced on yours truly! Well, I know that I've gotten stronger since I started riding, but I know that I am no match for a 1200 pound bull, and besides, he could have scratched the paint on my trusty Roubaix! He came into the northbound traffic lane, so I moved into the southbound lane. I kept an eye on him, while I calculated how I could reverse directions....I'm a lot faster downhill than I am going up! But, my luck held, and he came to a stop, so I rode by and continued on my merry way!
On my trip home, I got to watch a red-tailed hawk. It was perched on a power pole, and as I neared, it took off, and moved to the next power pole. As I neared, it again took off....only to land on the next pole in line! This went on for several times, untill the poor hawk finally left the area for a less crowded neighborhood!
By the time I got home, the temp was up to 93, so my timing was pretty good, I think! It was really an enjoyable ride. I hope that you other "roadies" had an equally enjoyable weekend!!
