Any of you registered for the Worst Day of the Year Ride? I would like to do the 40 mile route (maybe we won't get lost in the abyss of Beaverton this time...).

I think the ride is on Feb. 11.

Im going to try, I need to get a few more miles in between now and then. Do you have a link to the details of the ride?

Trust me, this is not a ride you need to train for.

I didn't ride much last year and currently have a 15 mile loop I ride on the weekends so if its 40 miles I want to get a few more miles in.

Better question would be who does the nude rides. And I think that would be the ride that doesn't need much training. ;)

I agree that you don't need to do a lot of training for this ride, but it does include a couple of decent climbs. On the way out the route goes over the west hills through Washington Park and on the way back it follows Cornell road. Neither hill is a killer, but last year we passed a lot of people who were really struggling up Cornell.

Well if you're going to do the 40 mile 'challenge' route instead of the standard 18 mile ride, you might be right about the training.

The only training required for the naked ride is in taking off your clothes and bending your elbow.

;)

I just got registered. Hopefully the weather is better than it has been this week! Rain is one thing, but ice and snow raises the stakes. I had to ride my mountain bike to work the last couple of days.

I want the last bowl of chili, even if it means cutting short the ride to get in line and letting people go by until they're scraping the bottom of the pot. mmmmmm good chili

I signed up for the 18 last night, but I am considering riding in from Oregon City to do the ride just to add a few miles. Anyone in the Oregon City area?

I'll be pedaling up from Sunnyside Road near Clackamas Town Center - 205 bike path to Johnson Creek. Johnson Creek rd to Springwater Corridor. Springwater through Sellwood to the Hawthorne Bridge.

Maybe we could meet up by Oaks Park. Im not sure if I am riding my mtb with slicks or using my road bike yet, weather dependant just so you have an idea of the pace I would be travelling at.

I would like to do it...but it doesn't look good, the wife is out of town, and its my father in law's birthday..they are normally my fall-back babysitters. :)

I'm also about to register for the 18-mile ride and will be biking there. I start from the area of Johnson Creek & 82nd. If you guys don't mind, I'd like to join you... it'll be more fun riding with someone, especially if the weather's crappy. I'm a female but I'm not too slow. I bike to work so I get a chance to keep in shape even in winter.
Anyway, let me know if you guys want to meet up.

Jakey, that's great that you can make it. Which one did you register for?

Do you guys want to meet up somewhere before the ride? If I counted correctly we have Dtrain, Masher, and Jakey (most likely) doing the 40-mile. I will be with a couple of people from work, but it would be fun to reconnect with the BF gang.

Last year it was kind of a zoo at the start (did anyone else see the woman get hit by a line of bikes as she tried to cut across several lines and make a left turn?). I will be riding past OMSI around 8:30 if anyone is interested in meeting there and riding to the Lucky Lab. I am going to try to get organized and pick up my packet tomorrow afternoon.

Another option would be to just look for each other at the start or the first rest stop at REI.

I'm in, Chisolm. I'm thinking of trying to make in down there this afternoon for packet pick-up (and maybe a ride on the tram) myself. OMSI works for me around 8:30...or maybe just 8:45 at the start if I make it downtown this afternoon.

'masher are you in?

Sorry the ride is full Jakey. Maybe you could just Park near the Pearl Dist. or something and we'll meet up at that first REI stop?

Well, I didn't get down there to pick up my packet. So I'll be around OMSI at 8:30, and heading to register no later than 8:40. Hope to catch up with y'all. Rad, are your riding?

Well it was far from the worst day to ride. Very nice event I thought it was well laid out. The weather did get a little nasty later on my ride back to Oregon City but it was still a good day.

Yeah, I had a lot of fun too, despite the lack of sleep. The chili soup + corn bread + stout was perfect at the end :]
