"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Will the Giro be on Vs. this year?

a few years ago, they had daily coverage,
then last year they didn't.

Well, they did have that 2 hr recap on Cyclism Sunday...

The 2007 TdF route is up on thier website, so the good news is that at least some cycling coverage will exist here in the States...so it's prob a safe bet that we'll have at least another "recap"...unless of course Discovery demands better coverage for Basso...

Yup - that's when I signed up for RAI (Italian network). I now get (with no commercial breaks) to watch both Milan SanRemo, and the Giro - along with a variety of other Italian cycling. Yes, it is broadcast in Italian, but I'm learning, and so can you!

The coverage is WAY better than what OLN (now VS) could ever do. :)

You can always subscribe to cycling.tv. They have over 100 days of live racing per year. I watched both the Giro and Vuelta last year.

I have searched and called DirecTV and the answer, sadly, is no. Now I'm trying to figure out if TVE Internacional (from Spain) will carry any cycling. Anyone know? I sent them an email and have received no answer. Dishnetwork does carry RAI. RAI does have great coverage of the Giro.

I run a linux box, and it seems you need Windows or Mac to use cycling.tv. Which bites. I might actually switch to Windont because of it.

Thanks. I will continue to look into TVE. Since I speak Spanish and lived in Spain for two years (Naval Base Rota) I would just as soon watch the Vuelta.

Well, I just switched my PC from Linux back to Windows for the sole purpose of checking out Cycling.tv, and I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed. Ok, Windont it is.

Discovery Channel has it's own bike team so why don't they broadcast the races???

Lets be honest, the "Get Rich Sitting on Your Ass!" infomercials that air at 6am on Discovery get higher ratings than would the spring classics :rolleyes:

I found that my Time Warner Digital Cable has both RAI and TVE. I'll be signing up shortly to get all the cycling I can watch.

Bad move unless you wanted windows anyway. I can watch cycling.tv just fine on my linux box. You may need to install the windows codecs and a few other things, but it is no big deal.

Not sure what flavor of linux you were running, but with Suse 10 the following link describes what needs to be done:

Cycling.tv doesn't work so well on my mac... no fullscreen mode! And the video always seems choppier. It's a faster processor than my work Windows machine, which beautifully displays cycling.tv in fullscreen. Awesome for "working" on a dual monitor display... one display is work... the other cycling!

It runs smoothly on my mac, but as you said no fullscreen. Maybe you just have a faster connection at work?

Fullscreen works fine on my linux box and my windows box.

I love that show, so much technology. Everything has 40 degrees of rake, no suspension and is made from 1/2" solid steel stock and is totally unridable. Takes three guys just to lift a frame.
The punchline is guys who spend $70K on these bikes, would you trust brakes installed by those clowns?

RAI has the Giro rights for all of NA. I'll warn you, the posted listing times are kind of suggestions, and not very reliable.

The feed is continuous, without commercial breaks that they insert in Italy, and they have after-stage discussions with directeurs that are pretty good. I was surprised at how many riders spoke very good italian, like Robbie McEwen. The commentators are pretty harsh on riders, they were cracking a lot of jokes at Ullrich's expense last year.

Hey! I plan on making $5000 a week from home doing something vague. I'm not sure what they're pitching, but is sounds like a marijuana grow-op.

Yep. worst case is run a Windows 2000 vmware session or install ies4linux (http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page) which uses wine. I actually have my system set up so I can log directly into Windows from GDM full screen.
