Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - i'd rather not ask this, but RD2 cranks: where can i find them?!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

goddammit!

i've been looking all over the internet and can't find the sugino rd2 cranks black 170mm (i'm assuming you measure from center of the hole to center of the hole? sorry i dont know the technical terms). i've been to 2 local bike shops, and atleast 20-30 sites on the internet, and nothing. i'm just looking for the cranks, not the chainring, because i want to keep rocking 48t (or 49) and not the 44 that the messenger chainring offers.

any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

aren't those the RDs and not the RD2s? (i'm not entirely sure on what the difference is)

I want R2D2 cranks...

Maybe that's just me.

I believe that when they say RD2, they are referring to the RD but using the Zen Messenger chainring.

Normally, the chainring that the RD uses is a 3/32 chainring, 130 BCD.

The Zen Messenger chainring is also 130 BCD but it's a 1/8.

I'm not 100% sure of this. Anybody else know?

There's an RD Messenger and an RD2 Messenger (little to no availability right now). Soma Fabrications has them and so does Merry sales (related distributor). No idea about black availability. When I emailed Sugino about them they said the new version was stiffer and I think they also cleared up the "165 hole drilled into 170-something arms" ugliness.

Yes, those are RD's, but they are black. Toeclips has RD2's (arms only) but they are silver.

never mind whether or not they are on rd2's, i believe that "zen" is a label which is only attached to the 144 rings - i believe that the ring you are referring to is just a "messenger" ring, since it is 130 bcd.

That "Messenger" 1/8 ring in 130 bcd only comes stock on those cranks, right?

Not just you at all. Even better would be C-3PO cranks, though. They'd have to go on a bling build, though, given the gold tone they'd have to assume.

yep - there have been other discussions about this, but sugino isn't offering the 130 "messenger" ring separate from the cranks right now.

you probably found some already since this thread is six months old, but bikemannetwork.com has them. they don't say "RD2" in the product description, but the picture fits.
