hello, all.
I live in a suburb SW of Boston. I've never been a serious cylclist, but since I'm approaching 60 and have some back problems (so I can't using the rowing machine any more) and am getting fatter by the day and love the feel of the wind & the smell of the woods & marshes, I've taken up riding short distances (6 -15 miles RT) a few times a week since october, and the weather here has cooperated. Sometimes like to go out at 2 or 3 in the morning if it's warm enough. My bike is a Peugeot PX-10 from '67 or '68, & I love it except the frame's too small, so I'll need to get a new bike very soon - especially since I have bad knees (scoped twice).

Thanks, I'm doing that now!

Also, congrats on picking up that bike :)

If you mean starting to ride again - yeah, I'm glad. Best of all have been the wee hours rides: moonlight on the water, deer in the road.
If you mean aquiring the bike - I've had the Peugeot since it was new, only realized too late that frame was too small. I'll need to seek Bikeforum's advice on a new one.

One more question, Snowy: which one is the Avatar? Or are you telling us you're Tintin reincarnate?

White one does look just like Snowy in the Tintin series - a fully-realized dog.

Been a member for a while and never went on this subsite before. I am 63 and have been riding since 1955. I still ride between 3K and 5K per year. The only advice I can give you is try and keep your gearing low. That will do a lot to save your knees. I have talked all my geezer friends to go triple for the large range of gearing. Don't push large gears and you won't be sorry. Bike riding is the greatest form of exercise. D

Also go check out the Classic/Vintage section, we love those old PX-10s over there, and love to see pics of them and find out the history, lots of advice, tips etc on keeping it going! Welcome!

I sir, am not far behind you in age or in knee's, right or wrong, I credit bicycling to the fact my knees feel better than any time in the last 15 years.
