and I might be hooked.

I got an F600(cannondale) frame and fork for christmas... so, i decided to build up my old frame and fork as a single speed(with old parts laying around)... just to try it. sure enough, I commuted on it twice and now i'm hooked. I don't know how i did it... but, i actually shaved 8 minutes off my best time with the same bike as a 1X9. the gearing is 44 X 16 on 26x 1.25 tires. On a 15.6 mile commute one way... my best time was 1hr 5 minutes. on the single speed, i made it in 57 minutes. I was completely surprised.

Now i'm thinking of turning the F600 into a singlespeed as well... and I'm contemplating turning my flat bar road bike into one.

or... i could just sell the two mtn bikes and get a single speed specific bike. wife would shoot me with this option though.

anyways... I'll post pics of the ss and the soon to be ss.

thanks for listening...

it's good to mix it up with gears for long weekend rides

It might be fun to buy a "dedicated" ss/fixed road bike. IMO, SS is fun, but fixed is much funner..

Fixed is funner. And don't convert everything to SS. Multi-geared bikes have their uses.

yeah, i'll probably keep the road bike as a 1X8... the good thing about converting them is the fact that I can convert them back at anytime. I know i'll end up buying a SS specific before it's overwith though....
