Considering this frameset. Has a top tube ding but otherwise damn nice. I can get it for about 490 bucks. Yea or nay?

if you're living in Tokyo, keep hunting. Yeah, Kiyos are the shizzle, but that's not a little dent. I'd rather have an undented frame that's more modest.

Yeah thats kind of what i was thinking. I really like it. Maybe i should wait.
Yeah, it was built up and also raced professionally. Crash ding.

I know nothing about frame restoring but I think it would be cool to weld a sleeve over that dent... It would just look like a regular top tube protector...

^^^im no expert but that doesnt sound like such a terrible idea.... if you did it properly. it would just be a top tube protector on the 'roids
If you like the bike, get it. Top tube dents are an aesthetic concern, not a strength concern.

I was more or less talking bang for buck here. Not worried about it folding up. Just the price compared with condition.
Thanks for the opinions

I think it's a little overpriced. You can get a keirin frame here in the states for about the same price. Isn't there a stock of super cheap keirin frames in Japan, or am I imagining things?

I'd say keep looking, that's not all that cheap, I'd think you could do better in Japan at least. And the thing about those top tube dents is, as you mentioned, that bike was crashed. There very well might be more damage to the frame that you can't see.

Yeah there are many for much cheaper. Kiyos dont seem to come up that often though and i really dig em. Ive made my decision to pass on this one though..

Im not worried about more damage considering the place id be getting it from. 100% reputable. Its not a private seller. Anyway...gonna pass though.
I appreciate the opinions and suggestions from everyone. I may ask again about others in the future. :)

That was before the boom. They are sometimes more expensive now (I just got a letter from my friend in Japan this morning...he said that it's almost impossible to buy an NJS bike right now, as someone is snapping them up and the parts just as fast as they are advertised. For big bucks, too).

There are like 10 or more on yahoo japan right now alone. Other places as well. The Kiyo above is at e-framebank. They have about 30 or more available. at similar or cheaper prices. Without dents. :)

Cool. He's in Kyoto. I'll let him know about e-framebank. (It's for him, not me).

Bear in mind that its a one buy thing with them. Buy one from them and your bascially done. Cant go back and get more. They dont want the resellers scooping up all the stuff. Its a non-profit organization. You cant even look unless youre a member. They dont sell to non-japanese they say. < lame
Check out this sex for 450 bucks. A bit small for me though.

Uh...buh.....buh........
Whoa.
I'd take that kiyo over the pretty, yet inferior, samson anyday.
look at the fork crown lugs, pantographing, and clean paint. the samson has chrome, sure, but it also has plug-ins in the rear triangle and "common" fork crown.
kiyo = less common
128, I prefer this picture (even though it is non-drive-side):

If I were ever to go to Japan to get a custom frame, it would be a Kiyo. He apprenticed with Rossin.
Also, that Samson's rear triangle is hideous.
