Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. What things do you guys do maintenance wise to keep it in tip top shape?
I normally do chain lube, check tire pressure, check bolts, make sure no rust starts
What are yours?

I always kick my wheel to make sure it's on straight before i ride.(if you think i'm kidding i'm not, because my current loaner wheel is mising at least 5 spokes and is terrible bent...) And don't forget to change the air in your tires with the seasons!

I, check bolts, no rust, and if there are signs of rust i fix the problem by replacing the part simply.

Same. I guess I'll have to do a bit more when I ride again though. I haven't touched it in forever. Only looked at it and thought about going on it.

I can't go very long without screwing with something, which is why I cut my seatpost, seattube, brake mounts, bars, headtube and rawed the frame and fork one at a time... Of course I don't really need to, it's just fun and I enjoy riding a little more if I've just put my bike together for some reason. Just check all the bolts every once in a while, and if something breaks, get a new part.

so by raw do you mean ur frame is bare metal? didn't/wouldn't that rust?

Clearcoat is amazing stuff.

Yeah, it rusts, it's a poor man's paintjob... It's just in spots, and I can sand it off. I haven't clearcoated it yet because there's some spots I need to finish sanding the remnants of the paint. I like the way raw frames look, also the stock paintjob was pretty crappy.

It might be bad for the frame long term, but I probably won't keep riding this frame for long enough for it to be a problem.

so you'll eventually clear coat it?

Probably. A hacked up frame from a $400 complete isn't going to be worth much anyway, so it's not a big loss if it rusts...

What part of California? We got 10 inches of snow the week before Christmas. Only 3-4 this weekend.

This area usually gets 500-600 inches in the mountains each year. So far, we've only had about 100.

Nah not really, small bits of freezing rain but nothing hardcore. Eastern Ontario and montreal get ice storms worse then anywhere in Canada
