Foo - Questionable modding?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well. Since you aren't a mod, I won't question you.

Which poll did a mod mod?
I'm guessing your were referring to this thread?

Don't know who added the last option, but they were probably just trying to help. Starting a thread about "qustionable modding" probably isn't the best reaction. In the future a PM to a mod is probably a better one.

I wouldn't worry about it, just as long as the vote tallies don't get run up on purpose. Options will get added in if there is an option forgotten, or if the mod sees an option missing that none has noticed yet.

Everyone wants a pic of me!! Get at the back of the line....
Yea. I need to buy a shirt. :)

There has been multiple more I have seen.
Also, on that poll, I asked what they would like on the bread, but the option both can be determined as I like both honey and butter on at the same time. Wouldn't work.

My daughter silkscreens.
I don't know if she did a shirt, but I think she made this screen:

Wouldn't bother me in most cases; the mods here are reasonable enough folks that I would probably agree the extra choice was an improvement. That said, a poll isn't always value-neutral; the wording of the question and the set of choices provided say a lot about the agenda of the person who designed it. If the issue addressed by the poll is a serious one, and if a mod were to change it so that the creator seemed to be pushing a point of view that they don't actually support, then that person would have a very legitimate grievance.
Also, if people have already voted, then adding new choices would distort the results, since not everyone chose from the same set of options.
Damn. I voted "No, it wouldn't bother me," but I think I've talked myself into the opposite point of view. Yeah, it's questionable modding, unless both the poll and the change are clearly in good fun.

I disagree. Both cornbread and the types of spreads used are clearly important, albeit divisive issues that have indeed caused irreperable damage to both home and hearth. If you want to continue to belittle this issue by declaring that the poll "isn't a serious one", then I take it that you are one of those people that believe butter, salt, and sugar can all be poured into grits without question or so much as a blink. Do you even own a bicycle?

Yeah, but it just doesn't ride the same since I greased all the bearings with butter and honey. You think some tobasco would help?

I'm not sure...could someone who's a mod please add the option "Maybe, I'm undecided on this issue" to the above poll?
Alright...the penalty for being a wise guy is 10 seconds of seriousness:
Yes, I would be dissatisfied with the mod's action. If the poll is within BF rules, it should be left alone, unless the original author requests a change. However, for the "good fun" polls, we should all be mindful of others. I believe Koffee recently noted that we should use discretion in making posts that single out particular users.

Shhhhh, you'll give it away...that's the secret ingredient!

I think it is obnoxious and inappropriate for moderators to edit/amend/remove people's posts without asking the author of the thread or post. Obviously there is an exception here for posts that violate the forum guidelines- i.e are spam posts, inappropriate, etc. Correcting obvious typos in thread titles is another exception.
There was absolutley nothing wrong or afoul of that thread.
It's one thing for the author of the thread to ask a mod to change things, but for mods to go ahead onm their own and hope that the original author likes the changes- not cool.
I've had issues with moderators deleting posts of mine not becuase they were "bad" or "inappropriate" posts, but because they didn't like my opinion or that it might have been slightly controversial..but that's another topic for another time.
One more thing- I also think it is reprehensible that the moderators attempt to hush any threads like this that provide constructive criticism and dialogue between users and moderators. Editing posts does not just affect the original author, but rather all the people who looked at the thread or posted to it.

I used to do it. I don't know this situation, but I would usually do it if the members were "oh man I wish you had {insert choice here**", if it made sense I would add it. This is the first time in years I have heard a complaint about, usually people are grateful for making the poll more accurate.
I've seen a few polls that I REALLY wanted to "adjust" but decided it wasn't my poll so let it go.

Couldn't really care as long as the original options were left in place.
