This is sligtly off-topic, but I'm gonna mention it anyway. There is a population census in Australia on August 7. Apparently the law here says that if a 'religion' gets enough recognition on the census, it has to be recognised as legitimate. As a result, there's a group of us intending to test it. To any Aussies who visit this place between now and August 7, on census night, write "Jedi" in the religion box. This is gonna be fun :D

What will be a hoot is how many serious responses you get! :D

It's actually been going around via e-mail for some time. I'm not sure how many responses we need, but I think we'll go pretty close.

I heard last week or so that this had already been done - in the U.S.A., I think - and that a number considered significant was recorded. Don't know what that got them, but it is interesting.

It's been done in the UK too. I think 80,000 people responded as a Jedi against a figure of 10,000 that is required for a religion to be officially recognised. The trouble is that the information was disregarded because it was quite patently bogus.

The "original" Star Wars is a classic, and always will be; it was original, well-written; and, most importantly, something new.

The "current" Star Wars is like a cheap knock-off of the original; the plot is lacking horribly, it relies far too much on CG, and on making people remember How Great Star Wars Was. Episode One was a sad dissapointment compared to what they could have done; I mean, come on. Metachloreans? Jar-Jar and the Gungans? Please.

I might catch it on video, but Lucasfilm isn't getting my theatre dollar for this one.

I think the original Star Wars movies are classics only because they were out when most of us were kids. I remember seeing them in the movie theater when they were first out. I've seen the original 3 movies so many times it would be impossible to count.

Sure the new movies have not lived up to our expectations, but maybe in the future they will be considered "classics" to kids who were born in the 1990s.

...I also saw the Karate Kid movies when they were first out, but I don't consider them as classic as the original Star Wars. I've had this conversation with some of the guys I work with many times. We are all in our late 20s. I would love to expand on this theme more, but I really have to change the diaper of my 2 year of son and get him in his pajamas an into bed...

I wouldn't worry too much about the Lip*Sync thing. The latest I heard was that they would only be on the screen for a fraction of a second in the background of a large battle scene, and that Lucasfilm has taken the uproar from the fans on board and are considering cutting the scene with them in it out of the final film.

I'll let you in on a little secret. The ape pic is actually the cover of a CD released by The Screaming Jets a few years back. Now if you've got a really loud stereo, we could give them some music with balls and really scare them off! :D

i'm not too sure, but weren't the books to the first three films written ages ago?

I agree that Jar Jar and the Gukuns were pretty lame, but Darth Maul ruled...well, up until the point he was cut in half...apparently the next film is going to be a love story type of thing...hmmm.

No, but I wish they were. There might be a bit of internal consistency in the story then.

The best I can say is that it looks like it's going to be The Phantom Menace II more than it'll be Star Wars IV <sigh>
