i'm planning to buy a new pair of cycling shoes and pedals..

money is tight so i need to buy shoes that i can use on both road and mtbs. I know its a stupid idea, but bear with me, money is that tight.

i'm planning to buy two sets of pedals and save on the shoes. next question is, what shoes would fit my demand(that is, if there is such)?

thanks.

any input will be much appreciated..

Do you have the pedals yet? If not, get soemthing that is SPD compatible for both your road bike and mountain bike. I have Richey logic pedals on both my road and MTB bikes, and I use a pair of performance mtb shoes. Works great, and you can actually walk in them of you have to stop.

Some people complain of hot spots with the small SPD cleats, but I've never had a problem.

If you want somehting for mtb and road, get mtb shoes as road shoes will not work well on a mtb. Look at diadoras, their relativley cheap and durable .

I'd second the motion for eggbeaters.

As for hotfoot, I won't use an SPD style cleat because of it on the road. Count me as one of those people that has hotfoot issues.

But, yeah, eggbeaters are nice. I've got them on the mountain bike this year and I like them a lot so far.

I wear Pearl Izumi Vagabonds for road and MTB. Very comfortable and a real stiff sole. Price was $74.
