Personally I think that is a tad high for a starting price...The last 3 I have watched on eBay have gone for $186, $255 and $208. It is a pretty one tho. I would like a twenty but not at those prices.

FWIW, a week ago I saw one at the bike shop (VJ's?) in Belmar NJ, guy behind the desk said $150.

Knowing the value of the bike and knowing the Ebay community, I doubt it will sell

If it's in the great condition that it appears to be, the seller may have put a lot of work into getting it that way. Now he wants his money back. That's understandable, but most of the people who buy these plan to fix them up themselves, with component upgrades. I'd be surprised if he gets that asking price, especially since it looks like it's all original components.

There's a lot to be said for keeping it stock and restoring it sympathetically though.
If I had the space I'd stockpile a bunch of them, restore them, hermetically seal them and sit on them for 20 years ;)
I think these bikes are pretty cool in a retro sort of way, but there's no way I'd pay $200 for one.
I had never even heard of them until I read Sheldon Brown's article on them. What is it that makes these bikes so appealling?

Compact size and they are very easy to upgrade.

like a pretty special bottom bracket, headset and on we go .... I would not suggest that these are easy to restore ( otherwise everybody would do it )
well worth the fun ...IF you have access to the right parts but not worth hundreds of dollars either..
Again for fun because they are cool : yes
challenging to get fitting parts": yes
worth while for everyday riding : yes ( if you dont mind the 29 lbs)
folding in a hurry : no ( take apart )
after all they stay a 20 year design with all the heaviness of the frame and cheap stamped dropouts etc..
again for fun... yes.. there are some really nice custom twenties out there which are a delight to see and drool over ...

It will sound like a shameless plug but i listed mine (fully customized) on ebay yesterday with a starting price of 49.99$.
Twenty are really interesting and fun bike. They are over 30 years old but ride like younger one. Customizing bike is a great way to learn things.
...very easy to upgrade.
I think this is sort of a misperception, when you think about the gymnastics and difficulties people go through to upgrade things like the bottom bracket, headset and front fork. Only a really obsessive - compulsive person would say these upgrades are 'easy'.

Guy, I see you modified Twenty is on e-bay. Hope you have another bike at home that you enjoy as much!
I rode a modified Twenty until this past weekend when I folded the rear triangle on a hill climb. Was running a 60T/16T single speed with 24x1' wheels, the chainline was a bit far out because of the diameter of the 60T spocket. Too much bending moment on the right side of the frame and she gave up the ghost.
Have conceived a new approach to for the frame repair that I am anxious to try out. will be much stronger.
Good luck with your sale, regards to all. Guy

I don't know if i will like the new one better but i will miss the Twenty for sure. The young guy (Customized Dahon Speed) fold smaller so could get into my car boot better. In fact i can put easily two Dahon or a Dahon and a Twenty BUT with much more trouble.

I remember the pick of your Dahon Speed 7 when you first added the braze-ons. Don't forget to keep us posted as it progresses,
Juan
It didn't sell, no surprise there. I picked mine up in Australia for AU$25.
