I'm talking about them coming waaaaaaay over to where I am, telling me about their personal crap. I don't even know them on a first name basis. I only know them by the company they are from. I swear one day I'm gonna be rude. :mad:

Not so much anymore, but in the past a lot of my job has been dealing with contractors. Not fun.

Well don't wait! You may wake up dead tomorrow, and then how are you going to be rude and express your displeasure with their actions. Aside from beyond the grave, as the awake dead, but not living... But yesh, OT. It's not rude to give people hints. And if they choose to ignore said hints, give more hints. Until you're practically hinting them over the head with whatever is nearby! If it comes down to it, spell it out. :D I say this because if you're postin' on a message board about it, it's probably built up a fair bit. It's better to be direct, even if they view it as rude, than sit there and stew.

Yo, Siu - I, for one, do not think it is rude for you to say exactly what you feel, to wit: "I'm sorry, I'm very busy and I don't have time to talk now." Say it in a pleasant but firm tone. Then go about your business. If Ding-chip doesn't get it, repeat the message, using a firm but less pleasant, maybe somewhere around civil, tone. After that, Katy bar the door, we're slipping the leash on Siu, and flying VV to serve a special batch of whupass stew. (But we will insist on photos, of course. :p )

Whether this vendor realizes it or not, he is taking undue advantage of your sense of good manners. People who do that out of ignorance need to be educated. People who do it deliberately (as an unfortunate number of telephone solicitors do) should be be discreetly maimed. In any case, the victims of such behavior at some point have to convince themselves (okay, ourselves) that it is okay to be rude to someone who simply refuses to honor our request to leave us alone or in some other way tries to turn our sense of propriety against us. The amount of "rudeness" should be doled out the way the police are suppposed to use force - the minimum necessary to get the job done without undue risk of injury to self or innocent bystanders.
