Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 650 front wheel on a pista concept

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i have a 2003 pista concept that i'm building up. it's a 48. anyway, i have a chance to buy a really cheap 650 wheel but the frame is not pursit bike. can i use the wheel or would that cause a huge problem. i might just save up the extra money and get the 700 front, but i was just wondering

you could, but you'd lower the bb fractionally and throw the geo off. you'd also have a bigger gap between the tire and fork crown, unless you changed the fork too, which would negate the savings, presumably. plus, why you asking these folks instead of your wiser friends on the ny board dd?

Dylandom,

The main issue will be the lowering of your bottom bracket. Depending on how bad you're looking at pedal strike, and the length of your cranks, you will be fine. The only real reason to run 650's is for barspins and other silly human tricks.

hmmm 1 cm in bb drop on a bike with a high bb or 2.5 degrees steeper on a bike with already steep angles. I'm going with ****ing up the ht angle as being the main issue. 2.5 degrees in the other direction is the difference between your concept and a pretty relaxed roadie by the way.

but it will look like an old hot rod, screw all the angles and inches.

it will work but you mess with the trail of the bike and make it handle all funny I guess if you don't have to turn its ok

good idea. after a certain point the angles just get stupid. tried it on a fuji track pro, didn't like it.

ohh stop it, it was funny. as for the wheel, i let go of that idea many a posts ago.

humancongereel
01-15-07, 11:17 PM
i've toyed with that idea myself, but i realize it would be just as bad a work bike as a pursuit frame. if not worse.

as far as forgetting you're a girl, i do feel like an ass for that. maybe that ass-ness is what's funny?

Keep the name dylan...I like that you can hang with the boyz and still be yourself and do you.

You start running an obvious chick name and show everybody how dope you look...these ****ers would lose their right minds. They don't know how to act as it is.

probably true...though i know some girl messies who could kick my ass and have a girl unit who's almost as badass as i am. or maybe more. it's a close call. when she told me when she met me that her favorite things were beer and fixed gears, i was hooked. she eats as much as me, drinks as much, rides as fast....yeah....

That's you and me both son...but some of these dudes are starving. One whiff of Chanel No.5, and they will flip into some creepy stalker **** faster than you can say "match.com".

Anyway Ian, back to the show...

i guess i could call you james, eh?

Sure...but most that really know me call me Barron, my last name (and stage name). James is that formal first name for elementary school teachers, cops, and signatures. Everybody else from way back and family calls me "Jaime", but that **** is Spanish and hard to pronounce right, so I go by my last name.

Call me 'Dipper for short!
