I remember reading about some trend where riders were riding w/o seats, just seatless the whole length of the ride. They would take the seat and post right off and ride standing up. Would it be posible to ride a fixed gear w/ no seat? I know it sounds insane, but could it be done?:D

It all depends on how attached are you to your testicles, smelly.

That would be tough. Maybe you should just get an ultimate wheel.

I can see a trials bike with no seat...a lot of the "mods" are seatless, or have an insanely small seat.

Believe me, it is also insanely hard.

Totally possible. I could only imagine what could happen if you forgot that you took the seat off and decided to sit on the tube...

It wasn't so much a trend, as it was a bike a guy with "ass cancer" built so that he could ride without being in too much pain.

True.
It was an excuse to post a cool bike made by a great builder (who's also a really good photographer).

Btw., maybe I'm showing my ignorance here, but do BMX bikes really need a seat, and wouldn't they be maybe even safer without a seat? The only time I've ever watched BMX was at the Beijing Olympics and the guys/girls there never sat down anyway, so what's the point of the seat really?

The seat on a bmx helps keep your man-bits away from the spinning tire if your feet slip off the pedals. Which happens often.

I would cap the seat tube with a PVC end cap and enjoy the short ride.

I take it you missed the whole bit about the builder having colon cancer and not being able to use a seat but still wanting to ride?

or he was referring to the OP's statement, since the Fast Boy is not fixed...

They have "trials bikes" that are often seatless, but they're made more for hopping around than actually riding from place A to place B.

On the BMX-type bikes, you can pedal standing up and coast sitting, so the seat does come in handy there.

This bike was not fixed either. It was (is) a fun ride and looks great on his wall now-a-days (now that his ass cancer is gone).

^ That's really disturbing in my opinion, with the seat tube sticking out, especially on the street....

For example:
A car honking you, scaring you, causing you to "accidentally" sit down which = butt **** by your bike :rolleyes:

Good thing he's not riding it on the street then! Do you know the story behind that picture?

She smokes a dozen and he doesn't seem to notice the smell
He took the seat off his own bike because the way that it felt

If you notice the gearing is massive. He probabley cant push that big of a gear seated so why not kill the extra weight and drag, even though its a very small amount of weight and drap reduced.

Sweet! I'm glad to hear your not the guy with the cancer, and I'm glad to hear he has so much to live for. (Really, I do.) but since the title to this thread is "fixed gear with no seat?" and you made no mention of a dude with cancer with a seatless bike I'm going to go ahead and say my reply stands unmolested. ;0)
