Anyone..

How important is it to clean out the basket mesh filter when changing the oil on a Ducati?

I'm looking for an excuse not to do it..

Not important at all if you dont mind restricted & contaminated oil flow. Is it really that big of a PITA?

Do it. Short cuts now will invariably lead to lightness in the wallet later.

Agreed! I had an engine rebuilt and it blew within 100 miles because the d...head mechanic couldn't be bothered to put a new "sock" on the oil sump pickup for the oil pump. It took a lawsuit to get it made right and a year of hassle. I paid someone else and got a dumbass. I rebuilt it the second time myself! The engine was running fine 10 years later when I sold the truck!

As one with years of experience wrenching on vehicles of my own and friends (a shade-tree mechanic, if you will), I can tell you that when it comes to maintenance, it's not uncommon for a dollar saved now to be fifty spent later.

That which you don't do today will eventually cost you more time and money later.
