Mountain Biking - First Trail Ride....and other things

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My wife and I went on our first off-road trail ride last Sunday. We took the hike/bike trail around the lake at Fort Yargo State Park in Georgia. What a blast! I know that the trail is considered a kiddy ride in difficulty, but we had a lot of fun.

Now the "other thing", I am usually a road rider and I know the importance of wearing the right kind of kit. I had only intended to ride about 5 miles and I just didn't think about it before we set out.

Let me just say that jean shorts and boxers don't work on a bicycle, even on a "comfort seat".

It was just like two marbles rolling around on a table top.

You gotta start somewhere and it sounds like you had a good time so that's ALL that matters.

No they don't, especially on those longer rides with lots of climbs where you're on the seat. Definately pick yourself up some baggies with a chamois built in, unless of course you like the tighties *ick*.

The less you look like a bike? Hey Maelstrom, trust me you don't look like a bike!! I know you're ugly, but not that ugly...haha, just kidding!

I would agree with the baggies with a riding short integrated! Makes a ton of difference! If I don't have my riding shorts on, I can't go far without feeling it! Oh and then you can also get the ever so lovely crushing your "two marbles" if they aren't held in place! It's happend OUCH!

Glad to hear you guys has a good time! It's just the beggining my friend!

There is always the option of buying a padded liner (kinded like padded underwear) that you can use with any shorts or even jeans.

BTW, welcome to the world of dirt, glad you and your wife had a good time.

Congrats on the ride. We all start somewhere and at least you are out there in the dirt. Just a warning don't make you gf ride behind you all the time. The grit in her teeth will come back to haunt you later. :)
