I hate going to Safeway, Costco etc... and having those annoying people (venders) giving away samples for free. They just get in the way of the whole herd.
Sometimes when it is not so busy they go out of their way to solicit customers. I avoid them at all cost and simply try to ignore them, but still they are in the way.
My wife doesn't make it any easier because she likes them and encourages them and is actually nice to them. Arrrrggghhh!!!!!
So... What are your thoughts regarding these cagers of safeway?
Steven
I personally don't like it either. Its like people just go to the store to eat the freebies???
I never try the new stuff they are trying to sell cause there always seems to be about 10 kids asking for the food/drink product that they are selling.
But generally I'm in my own shopping mood and just forget that their there!! :)
Just say "I'm allergic to pork!"
And when the old hag responds "This is cheese and crackers!", say "Well you smell like pork, now leave me alone!"

I like them. I usually avoid grocery stores on weekends anyway, and that's when they are usually there, but I don't mind them when I do see them.

I used to love those, but not anymore. Now i just keep on walking, if they ask me would i like some i just say no thank you. If they get upset, well screw you, you get paid to just stand there and offer it.

This could become a different kind of thread. ;)
I know people that like to go to these places and "graze" on what ever fodder is there. Get a life....

I just take a sample, eat it, then suddenly crumple to the floor... then slowly pick myself up, uttering, "whoa... that was trippy..."

When I lived in Quebec the grocery stores would give samples of beer. On this side of the border it is only mystery meat and crackers. MMMMMMM mystery meat.

I have this way of keeping such people out of my way. Like at Cabelas the other day these annoying people at the front door were asking everyone if they wanted to sign up for a credit card. They took one quick look at me, and said nothing.

Well no wonder, you walk in there with a yellow face and a big blue smilie!:D
Yea I usually get ignored too. But I figure that's because I look different. Being white and all. Plus I just ignore everyone around me. All the idiots looking for a free sample clogging up the aisle at costco is really annoying. I just want my pot stickers and bagels. Damn.

Sams club has them all the time, but I only shop Sam's club on the weekends. So maybe thats why they're always there. Some days they are uber aggressive. Like this last week. 3 or 4 of them asked in a row. And they line the aisles, especially all of the frozen produce aisles.

It reminds me of the Family Guy where Peter Griffin keeps dressing upo with differnet disguises to get free samplers. And then finally the person says, "YOU DONT HAVE TO DRESS UP ITS FREE!", and then like multiple peter griffins come.

our costco has a sampler who gets into his job it is fun just to listen to him, he is good
free fooooooood mmmmmmmmmmmm
"Does it have onions in it? I can't eat onions."
It's all part of business. If you don't like it then shop on weekdays.
I do hate it when a whole family "camps out" for a sample. But I usually just get loud as I "nicely" ask people to get out of the way (and embarrass my wife at the same time!) hahaha!!
But it's not like it's anything new. You just expect it and deal with it. Or come earlier before the crowd.
I used to work at Safeway and those things actually helped increase sales.
But I always make it a point to say Thank You to them after taking a sample, usually for my daughter, since most people just grab and go.

they don't really bother me. I just go around them. I should think that you are pretty blessed indeed, if this is your biggest peeve.
Cheers,

The local Piggly Wiggly franchise won't allow sample mongers. The store is too small. Seriously, Richardson's Bike Mart has a bigger floor for clothing then this small Pig. Yes Piggly Wiggly is a real chain, not just made up for Driving Miss Daisy.

I can't say this is my biggest peeve at all, but you know, I don't have many. I am blessed indeed. I only brought this up when I saw the thread on venders and it reminded me of this, and I didn't want to hijack the other thread.
I would hate to get caught tampering with the samples by putting concentrated Habanero juice in them. :) Imagine the results, whoo hoo.
This thread is meant to be light hearted and fun so don't take it to seriously.

My 6 year old is very fond of those guys. "Daddy, are we going to the store where they have free food on sticks again anytime soon?"

I once walked into BJ's where they where giving free samples of whisky.
Took part in that one.
Usually I ignore them, unless they are doing a product that I would like to try, but other than the whisky that hardly ever happens.
