I am considering doing this ride. It looks amazing. I have a condo in Mammoth so I might as well use it.
If anyone is interested, let me know.

I've done this ride twice, first time in 2000 and again in 2004. This is an incredible ride, the route is A++, and the support is top notch. There's not that much elevation gain (6000' maybe?), but it always proves to be a challenging ride, partly due to riding at altitude and the home stretch gets a nasty headwind. The descent from Sagehen Summit is screaming fast, I hold my speed record of 55 mph on that descent, and could've hit 60 easily. I'd love to do it again this year, but it falls too close to Everest Challenge, and I can't do that many "away" rides.

A lot of this is the same course as the Eastern Sierra double century. I agree it is an awesome ride.

We were in Mammoth in June and rode the town areas several times. What a great place. Wish we had bought a condo way back when we were skiing there! Now we can't afford it!
I saw the notices for this ride and it looks great. You should do it! You might want to arrive a couple of days early to get some rides in at altitude. I was amazed at how much I felt it! OTHH, when we got home from a week there and Tahoe, I felt like superman down here in the flats!

Sheldon, your right. Mammoth is a great place to ride during the Summer. It is really a magnificent place to ride. We have had a condo up there since the 80's. Now with the new village, prices are nuts. That investment paid off nicely.
I agree. I have spent a lot of time in Mammoth and it helps to acclimate yourself to the higher elevation.
Are you considering going ?

I did this ride I think in 2002? maybe 2003?
It's not easy and my recommendation is to go up a couple of days early and aclimate to the attitude but man, talk about your pretty, beautiful, stunning scenic rides. If you know the area at all, you start near Green Church at Lake Crowly, take 395 up to Mono Lake , turn go inland, have a tough climb then a Heavenly sent downhill and then, well I can't say I enjoyed these, the roller-coasters - steep, short, narrow ups and downs, just like a roller coaster, then Wild Rose Summit (yipes 15% grade for 1 mile) and then the downhill from Hell into Lake Crowley where I hit 52 miles per hour, started to lose my contact lenses and finally started braking cause I realize a fall at that speed would be bad. Riding toward Green Church, along the back side of Crowley was beautiful although I was bonky and tired. Had to stop for cows. When I get home will see if I can dig up some photos.
Having a condo in Mammoth - I am jealous. I love the place. Usually spend a week or two there every summer. If I ever win the lotto...

I've done this ride twice now. Spectacular about sums it up. This is the best century California has to offer, IMO. Don't miss it, ESPECIALLY if you have a condo in Mammoth.

Depending on my schedule (I have to go back and look at what I'm doing anymore!), I'd be up for this. I didn't care for Mammoth strapped to a board last year, but to ride up there must be glorious! :D

Considered it but was a bit finicky about how much climbing there would be at altitude. Figured I would find myself really hammered! Hey, you'll drop me quick on the downhills for sure!
If you are planning on going, let me know. I'll see how my body is doing as we get deeper into the year.

Count me in, I need a century for September. Mountains & climbing, I love them both.
I had intended on doing this ride two years ago, took off work Friday. Drove up, picked up my packet, checked into the hotel, started bringing things into my room only to find out that I left the bag with my helmet and shoes in my garage.      Now I have one bag that carries everything, helmet, shoes, clothes, lights, etc.

Thankfully there are lots of bike shops in town - I definitely would have bought new to not miss the ride.
Bigbossman's photos are awesome - they give you the jest of the ride - what you will see. He didn't get the "rollies" however - just as well. You need to experience them yourselves.
At times you do feel you are riding in the middle of nowhere and I guess you are. There's little or no car traffic at all.
Here's one more odd photo, coming back into Lake Crowley - lots of open range cows around (plus a beautiful alpine stream with fly fisherman)...

It may be more efficient if you just keep track of the rides you are not considering. The list couldn't be that long.

I did this ride for the first time last year and it was magnificent. The views are amazing. The altitude did claim quite a few people. I can't wait to do it again.

You need some type of an autobot that when a new ride is posted will automatically say "I'll be there!" for you. :p
BTW, I'll Be There, too, if I'm not double the Eastern Sierra Double... :D

I'm in, actually signed up for this two years ago, got there on Friday, checked in. Got to the hotel, and found out that I had left my shoes & helmet at home. Now I have a bag that carries everything and I don't forget my shoes or helmet any more. So this year I will definitely ride it.

just checked and they are on the same day...still have a few weeks to figure it out though....
Looks like they will have a Jersey and Shorts for this Century to make a matching kit. I'm waiting for them to post pictures on their website.
I feel it will be important to get into town at least 1-2 days before the ride on Saturday so that we can acclimate to the altitude.
