Type of ride: Organized
Name of organized ride: America's Most Beautiful Ride, Ride around Lake Tahoe
Actual mileage: 100.8
Ride time: 6:10
Total time: 7:30
Average speed: 16.1
Altitude climbed: 4,140
Weather conditions: Typical Lake Tahoe Day, cool in the morning, clear & sunny all day and no wind.
Synopsis of ride: This a national event for Team In Training (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society). Of the he 300 riders that do the ride, at least 2/3 are TNT riders. My wife was a mentor for this ride. Rode by myself most of the ride, rode with their fast group the last 1/3 of the ride. Stopped a few times to get pictures of the wife and her group. Lake Tahoe is a beautiful ride, everyone should do it at least once. But be prepared to either start early or pass a lot of TNT riders on the road. I really enjoyed the ride, will have to do again, next time my wife and I will get to ride it together.

Synopsis of ride: This was my wife's 3rd century, she did great. She just needed a little help with the climbs and that slowed us down. This was my first century 4 years ago, and I have done it ever since, one of my favorite centuries.

Date of ride: Sunday - September 23, 2007
Type of ride: Organized - LA Wheelmen
Name of organized ride: Grand Tour Lite (DM)
Actual mileage: 121.25
Ride time: 8:03
Total time: 10:30
Average speed: 15.0
Altitude climbed: 6,040
Weather conditions: Great day, a little cool in the morning and warm on the climbs. Some headwinds going across the coastal plain, but lighter than usual.
Synopsis of ride: Started this ride with friends from Santa Clarita. Ride was going great until John (LAbaby) crashed on the descent of 23 going into Westlake. We put him in a vehicle, and and then rode & met him at the closest urgent care facility, where he was transferred to Kaiser. He broke his shoulder in 8 places and it required surgery. He is still recovering now. Needless to say this altered our route, instead of dropping down Potero we went through TO and hooked back up with the ride in Moorpark, where we joined the BF crew. Rode the rest of the ride with them. Good times and great fun. Its amazing with the detours caused by the accident we still ended up with basically the same mileage and climbing.

Date of ride: October 6, 2007
Type of ride: Organized - Community of North Fork
Name of organized ride: Grizzly Century
Actual mileage: 104.31
Ride time: 8:20
Total time: 10:00
Average speed: 12.5
Altitude climbed: 10,500
Weather conditions: Cold, really COLD, 34 degrees at the start, it never got above 50 the whole day, and the snow line was just below 7000 ft. The sun was out the whole day with no winds.
Synopsis of ride: The ride this year had a route change due to snow & ice on one of the passes. So instead of being a loop, it was an out an back. Part of the loop that we missed was a 15 mile 4,500 ft decline on new pavement. Aside from the route changes this was an incredible ride, very few vehicles on the road, and half of those were SAG vehicles. No stop signs or lights. I love the Death Ride but I think this ride is even more beautiful. This ride is put on by the community of North Fork, and this was the best supported ride I have ever been on. They even had sushi at the SAG stops, along with lots of other goodies. This is the first time I have done this ride. A few friends told me I would not be disappointed and I was not. For a challenging scenic epic century, this is a MUST DO RIDE

Name of organized ride: Not Quite Baldy, definitely not Lite with a "plus"
Actual mileage: 102 (or thereabouts)
Avg Speed: no clue
Ride time: Dunno
Total time: Not sure
Altitude climbed: Not as much as I planned to
Weather conditions: Warm, then cold, then warm, then cold, then hot.
Synopsis of ride: Rode with Scootcore from my place in Glendale to meet everyone at Encanto. I knew it was a bad sign when my front derailleur cable snapped about 1/2 a mile into the ride. Because of the cable issue, I had to ride home and switch bikes (with no mount for the Garmin, hence the lack of data). Got on the road for real about 6am, which worked out better than planned. The heavy ass touring bike with lights and all (and not maintained for a ride for the last 6 months) - made the ride a bit more of a challenge than I needed, considering my lack of recent conditioning. Got to Encanto, met with the group and started toward GMR. You can find more details on that portion in the ride reports. Turned around at the junction with GRR - I'd say it was because of the wind, but I was just struggling with the touring bike up those hills. Rode back to Encanto with a group who also cut things short. Rode with Scoot back to my place, then I went to the LA River path to tack on another 18 miles to get over 100 - 9 on the river path, 7 in a loop around up Trash Truck hill plus the distance to and from my place.
Not a pretty way to get to a century, but I finished it.

Altitude Climbed: 4827 Feet
Weather conditions: Cold and windy. Approx 65 degrees.
Synopsis of Ride: Wasn't intending to do a century today however the weather was nice and cool and I was enjoying the ride. Started in Westlake Village and headed into Simi Valley. Climbed Santa Susana Pass. Descended into the San Fernando Valley and headed towards Reseda. Down Reseda Blvd with a quick stop at some of my favorite bike shops. Continued on through the Valley and into Calabasas, up Mulholland back to Westlake where I met up with the local CVC group that was doing a ride through Hidden Valley. A trip into Hidden Valley and back home. My mileage was a tad under 100 miles so I climbed some hills in my neighborhood to finish off my century.

Synopsis of ride: Rode this ride with a few people from BikeJournal.com. Was trying for and set a new personal best. This is a timed event, everyone has timing chips on a strap around their ankles. There are two dry river crossings that you have to cross carrying your bike, SAG stops every 8-10 miles, intersections are controlled by the police. This is an epic ride, everyone should do this ride at least once. Read a full accounting of this ride at: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=363008&page=4 post #94

Synopsis of Ride: I had told a few friends about the Planet Ultra XMAS Century and they wanted to ride it. Planet Ultra re-scheduled their century this year to next week. Since of of the group is out of town next week we decided to ride it today anyhow. Cool brisk weather with a bit of wind but beautiful conditions. We did a leisurely pace and enjoyed the scenery.
I end the year with 10 out of 12 rides. Missed 6 weeks (June 29-Aug 24) of riding due to my near death injury. All in all a great year other than the accident in June.

Weather conditions: 40 degrees to start, warmed up a bit until I started climbing Big T. Upper Big T had snow and ice on the road. And not just a little! Coming down Angeles Crest was frigid (the guys going down who weren't bundled up like I was must have been hating life). Other than that, beautiful clear day, though
Synopsis of Ride: Let's see. The ride was tougher than I had any right doing with the lack of conditioning I've had lately. But I did it anyway. Rode from home over to Foothill and up Big Tujunga. Took Angeles Forest to Hidden Springs and took a little break at the cafe. Continued on to Upper Big T. Beautiful and relatively quiet, only a few motorcycles every now and then. About 2/3rds of the way to Angeles Crest, I saw a little patch of snow. Then more, then all over the sides of the road. Near the top there was ice all over the road. Wasn't too bad, since the road is so rough and the ice was in the crevices. But I still rode very slowly up the hill (BECAUSE OF THE ICE!! Really!) and hit Angeles Crest. Stopped at Red Box and saw the snow topped mountains in the distance, which was very cool.
After coming down Angeles Crest and heading home, I was still about 30 miles shy of a century, so I rode over to Dodger Stadium and back, then did a couple laps on the bike path since that's all I had left in me (the climb to Elysian Park finished me off).

Weather conditions: I laugh when I look at my November century where I was thankful to have a cool day. Today it was 35 degrees at the start, slowly warming up to the low sixties. Beautiful though!
Synopsis of Ride: Stayed in the east end of the valley, heading way out into nowhere land. Nice, though. Very little traffic. My husband rode for about 70, finished on my own as usual. Happy to have December in! :D

Weather conditions: Great day, weather was perfect, cold in the morning, never really too warm. Some headwinds on the coastal plain.
Synopsis of ride: It was just the perfect day for a ride, the company was great, Irene from Santa Clarita Velo, a few bike forum friends, and some of the SFVBC. It was a good strong pace most of the day, not a drop dead pace, which I'm sure some of the riders could have accomplished. This being Planet Ultra's Christmas ride with minimal support, we decided to stop at Neptune's Net for a little chowder, and a soft drink.
